Paris Saint-Germain (H) - CL SF | Post-Match Thread

Quite simply I think last night ranks of one of the best City performances I've ever seen. It was a fascinating game and I think finally we might be breaking our CL curse!

Ederson didn't have too much to do, but THAT PASS to Zinchenko to set up the goal will have alerted Real/Chelsea that pressing an extra 10 yards up the pitch leaves them open to defence splitting passes from the keeper. It was absolutely sensational!

The defence were utterly magnificent. Dias and Stones were utterly magnificent and put it one of the best central defensive performances I've seen for a long time. I've said it before, but we had to wait for a Kompany replacement but in Dias we've found him. What a phenomenal player he is and it's no joke he is the best in the world right now. Stones, was just as good and is class on the ball. Walker put in a magnificent performance and got to show his pace at times. As for Zinchenko, that was his best game for us - composed, used the ball well, helped set up the first goal and tackled well. I'm sure there's better left backs in the world, but Zinchenko gives the team so much balance when he plays I think I'd be tempted to stop looking for another left back.

Fernandinho was different class. What a player he is still and shows that age is nothing for him. He was everywhere and whilst I think Rodri is a top class player, Fern is a master of the dark arts. A wonderful performance and I can see him starting in the final. I hope he is still around next year because he never lets you down.

Mahrez, KdB, Silva, Gundogan and Foden ran the midfield. Whenever they had the ball we harried and pressed them and I had Mahrez and Foden as the pick of midfield - when they are on form they are unplayable. How Foden didn't score is beyond me. What a player he is though - he's saved us £120m this year and I think he will become one of England's greatest ever players the way he is going. Honestly, I'd give every player a 10/10 for that performance. If we do that in the final, we will beat anyone else!

Tonight I want Real to win. If you're playing in your first CL final you need to have some glitz, glamour and royalty there and Real are just that. It will be a great game and they will be terrified of how we play.

Just a shame I had the covid vaccination yesterday otherwise one of my champers would've been cracked open. Good job I got plenty in as predicted as I had a feeling we'd be winning a lot of trophies this year. I can't believe what I'm seeing when I think back over the years, just incredible!

COME ON CITY, COME ON REAL!!!

It WAS, now fixed:-)
Still laughing. Brilliant.
Is that right? when Pep was annoucned as our Manager I'm sure it was because someone leaked that he'd been looking around schools.
She went back to Spain about a year ago, saying her business need her there. I think she took one of the children with her.

To a man we were brilliant, but immediately after the whistle was blown, I said Zinchenko was my MoTM. What an attitude! What a player he's becoming!

He came to us as a very promising youngster, but ultimately didn't quite hit the grade we were looking for. It was odds on from the beginning we'd sell or loan him out, but I recall an interview he gave saying he had self belief, a willingness to learn & improve, & the patience to wait for an opportunity to prove himself. He also said City was the only club he wanted to be at, & how determined he was to remain here.

I recall when he first played in place of an injured Mendy. He was OK, but City still needed a quality LB as back up for Mendy, not a makeshift young midfielder. He was a reasonable option in the main, but also a bit hit & miss with his performances & not the long term answer for our problem LB position. He'd be having a brilliant match, but a couple of serious lapses later he'd have our defence on the ropes. His lack of pace is also a major concern too.

However, the kid has stuck it out. He turned down an £18m move to Wolves, with a better chance of regular first team football for himself. He did this to follow through on his pledge to improve himself as a player, & to prove himself good enough to nail down a permanent squad position on merit.

He arrived here as an attacking, creative midfielder, but was seen more of a general CM baller. This issue for Zincheko's career is that City had many more better players than him in his preferred CM position. However, when the opportunity arose to take advantage & become our preferred ball playing LB, he's grabbed it with both hands.

I suppose a question mark will always remain that City need two dedicated, world class LB's to reflect our options on the right, not a converted midfielder, & an often injured LB who hasn't lived up to expectations. But Zinchenko keeps answering that question by slowly & steadily improving into a genuine LB option for us.

Perhaps that question mark can be the best thing all round for Zinchenko & City! It will keep him on his toes, always with something to prove & a position to protect. If I could bottle & sell a football players attitude, it would be Zinchenko's. He's an inspiration to all young aspiring footballers the world over. Never give up on your dreams, & have the fortitude & belief to keep fighting to achieve them.

He's hopefully got another 90+ minutes in him to make Manchester City history. Here's hoping Zinchenko can be a major part of that history..... :-)

Superb Post

May have been covered elsewhere but I will ask the question anyway. Did anyone notice the ball skim Dias' hand prior to hitting Zinchenko's shoulder?

Keep seeing a clip on sky of the players dancing and singing in the changing rooms after the game, anyone any clue what they are singing?
