Try Ashton Moss park and ride, and come down the New Rd by bus or tram.

Just park on Ashton new rd itself, opposite the Grove pub. I think the restriction is Mon-Fri 8am-6pm.

You can avoid that road block by heading down the back streets of Clayton behind the velodrome. That will then take you back on to Ashton New Road (via North Road). Pretty easy :-)

Sometimes you can park just off Gey Mare Lane if you get there early enough. Near the police station. I have had a parking ticket nearby so best be careful!!

You can park on the side roads behind the con club on ashton new road for free.
If you are going to the m60, you are better off near ashburys station and then on to hyde road by doing a right at the monastery and do a right after the white van (it will be there!)

Or if you're flush you could always park on the car wash next to the grove for a fiver.
