Parliament in general thread

He’s got a point.

The Government try to avoid parliamentary scrutiny on a daily basis.

This should be in the verminous Tory thread. Not that I mind if they've decided to renationalise the railways.

I remember being told that some of the objection to the introduction of TV cameras in Parliament in the 80s (?) was based on such behaviour previously going under the radar...
The cameras were allowed in the Lords about five years before the Commons, which is odd given how many Peers enjoy catching forty winks. A few glasses of red at lunch, the heating system on full blast, and the gentle murmur of debate in the background, irresistible.

Not really surprising, the delivery from the minister was as dull as possible (even for dull administrative matters) and the chamber is far too comfortable.

Both houses need to be moved to modern facilities with the speaker sitting at the front and everyone else sits in a round chamber like the Scottish Parliament, EU Parliament and Bundestag.

With other more substantive reforms this would reduce the presence of these relics from 19th century and the Palace of Westminster could become a museum and occasional venue for ceremonial occasions.
