Passport Validity for Travel to Paris

Obviously not wishing to tempt fate but there's been a few news stories recently about people being turned away from flights to European destinations as they didn't meet passport validity entry requirements so I thought I'd read into it. I suggest anyone planning on travelling checks now as it can take quite a while to renew your passport if required.

Looking at the French gov and UK gov websites, your passport must meet two criteria:

• Issue date must be less than 10 years ago (i.e. June ish 2012 or after)
• Passport must be valid for at least 3 months past your planned departure date (i.e. September ish 2022 or after)

I meet these requirements but only just so thought I'd pass this info along to anyone who might not be aware so you don't get caught short (either on the day if we get there or any future trips abroad!)

Good shout mate. I read about this the other day. Some bloke got turned away by Ryan Air , apparently they’re looking at issue date rather than expiry.

We sent my daughters replacement off a fortnight ago and the new one arrived this morning. As long as you complete the application form correctly it looks like you should be fine.

I thought passports were only valid for 10 years so wouldn't they always have been issued within 10 years if not already expired ? Good to alert people to check anayway.

mine is valid until July 2023 from an issue date of October 2012. Possibly something to do with mine getting damaged and having to get a replacement

If you renewed early prior to 2018 they added on the months left from the old passport up to 9 months.

If you're really in a bind you can get a new passport within a few days. But obviously it costs a lot more and you have to go and pick it up in person. I think the NW office is in Liverpool isn't it? https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently/online-premium-service
