Paul Bosvelt

I remember when we signed him, his best days were behind him and I thought his performances for us were generally average, although he did have a few decent games.

His second season was better than his first I thought, think I remember him scoring against Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as against Tottenham the season before.

While I didn't think his performances were always that good, I thought he added some grit, determination and aggression to the midfield and helped to hold things together in the middle. I wouldn't say he was that much like De Jong, but he had a bit of a tough side to him.

Definitely held things together in the middle. Both him and Reyna in the midfield, past their prime, but still did a trick. Nothing spectacular, just solid. Looked like someone you wouldn't want to meet alone in an alley. Like someone said, looked like he smoked cigarettes and drank all day long. Good stuff.

A good strong tackling midfielder in the NDJ mould. Was over the hill when we got him. Was idolised by his former club - was it Feyenord? They had a giant banner of him made up.

That's right...you can see it in the clip below at 0:08. That was the last match Bosvelt played in the Feyenoord stadium. He didn't know about the banner until someone told him afterwards and thanked the Feyenoord fans by hiring a plane with the message ''4ever comrads, paul''. You can see the plane at 2:18 and it flew over just before the next home match started.

Paul Bosvelt is an assistant manager nowadays in Holland with Go Ahead Eagles.

I remember back when Thaskin was in charge I swear I saw Bosvelt outside the ground before kick-off (can't remember what game it was) walked right past him, don't know if anyone else has seen him before at City since he left us??

Yep had the turning circle of a double decker bus, when he arrived at our place for his last big pay off. Perhaps 5 years earlier it might have been a different story but utter cack and over the hill when we got him.
