Paul Gascoigne - terrible waste

Gascoigne is the one player that got everyone off their seats when he got the ball, many say if he had gone to United he would’ve done so much more, I agree but for a limited time, whiskey nose wouldn’t have put up with antics too long, look at Stam, Beckham, Sharpe to name but a few. The line between genius and nutter is a very thin line.
Especially if you are a geordie, they all seem a little crazy even before they've had a drink

I think the myth that surrounds gazza is more romantic than the actual reality. He had what 3 good seasons before injury ruined him.! There’s no doubt he was a very good player but I think he gets made into something he wasn’t because of his injuries.

He has some cracking stories though. However wether he would have fulfilled his promise without injury is one of intrigue. And also the myth that if he had signed for United then he would have been the bestest footballer the world has ever seen is a load of bollox. Ferguson got loads wrong but no one apart from city fans want to call that out. He couldn’t always handle troublesome footballers. Sharpe. Ince. Kanchelskis.Morrison.

when players started to get a little bit big time he binned them. Stam. Beckham. Van nistelrooy. Pogba.

He was blessed with talent but plagued by his mental torment. Being the best, as his talent would have allowed him to be, comes with the pressure of diet, lifestyle and the relentless drive to improve. Unfortunately, he was not able to deliver on the mental side of the game partly because of the trauma he suffered as a young man. I feel for him, despite some of the offensive behaviours.

At 21 gazza was playing for a mediocre spurs side. Foden is playing for the best team in the world. A well oiled machine. Not a fair comparison.

I have never said gazza was the greatest player of all time and I don't deny the fact that foden is an exceptional footballer.
There is a reason Foden is playing in one of the best teams at 21 and Gazza wasn't.

Anyone who didn't see this guy play in his prime has no idea how good he was.

Think about this at the age of 23 he outplayed the best midfielder in the world Lothar mathaus at the time.

At his best he combined the ability to control a game of a no 8. With the creativity and invention of a no 10.

If he was playing for man city today he would be head and shoulders above any city player.

Phil foden as great as he is is no where near as good.

If it wasn't for injuries and alcohol. Gazza could have been one of the greatest players of all time.

Bless.

Change the fucking record ... at least you are not polluting the Foden thread with your 'if, buts and maybes' shite argument.

I guess that's what they call "revisionist thinking", yeah?
