Paul Lake

His personal duel with his England U-21 mate Gazza in a game against Spurs at Maine Road was one of my favourite memories of Lakey. I think Spurs played in their yellow away kit. I used to have the ITV highlights on tape and at one stage they started kicking off with each other, so Gazza started pulling his ears out to take the piss out of our Paul. A crying shame that we never saw the best of either player

Kin ell Mr Lake you owe us nothing. nothing ever.

I saw your debut, i saw you progress you were special and i think every blue who saw you play will always have a special place in there heart for you.

You would have captained England i have no doubt about that, you were that good. The best junior to come through the ranks that i saw, you were head and shoulders above the rest. Evn gazza was that worried he grabbed your balls or perhaps he fancied you.

Thank you for the Derby in 89. thats your legacy, you played a huge part in one of the greatest days of my life.

thank you

This this this and more of this!!!!!
He was my first city hero and will always be

I have just finished reading his book yesterday and its an amazing, brilliant read.
An absolute must for all city fans. BUY IT!

He couldn't love city and the fans any more, and should never EVER feel like he let us down.
It was the club that let him down and i have no doubts we wouldn't have had such a miserable time as we did in the 90s with him in the team.

The fact he still loves city is a testament to the man and his strong character. Anyone else would have hated the club after what he was put through

I know he comes on here like the rest of us fans and I hope he reads this thread.
All the best mate you deserve all the happiness in the world

Lake and Gazza's little argument starts at 2:50.

I was soooooo lucky to meet both Paul and Buzzza when they visited the submarine base a couple of months ago, my hero and my old mans in one go, cant ask for more !!!!!!!!

That's a great interview, listening to how he describes the problems he faced with his ACL shows he's clearly very knowledgeable on the subject.

I must say though I do feel a little guilty listening to him there as it's something that I honestly believe to this day in that we wouldn't have been in half the shit had he managed to regain full fitness (listening to that I realise just how much of a burden that placed on him), but I will say this (and I hope you read this 'Blue Ripple'), categorically, at no point, not even for a nano-second, did I ever think you didn't do everything possible (and beyond) that you could do to make it back, I've had the same injury myself so know exactly what that struggle entails, the person you describe in that interview is a total one-off (and an idiot) and in no way represents the view of the rest of us.

It was a great tragedy and such a sad event, but Lakey will always be 'one of us'.

Im glad he is still at the club. My old man still insists to this day that lake was a special talent. seems a top bloke too.

Thanks a lot, fella.
Great, great game that was, with a proper Kippax atmosphere

I had the honour of meeting him at his book signing last year. I was taken back by how nice he was. Talking City and had time for everyone. His book is easily the best footballing book I've ever read and it's amazing he still loves the club after all he went through. Hearing him say he wishes he could have 'given more to the City fans' is just crazy talk. You gave everything you had for us Paul, for better or worse. You'll always be one of us, and don't ever forget it.

This,this & this.

I know my username is a bit strange, but Lakey is my all time hero & if I had as much talent in my whole being as he had in his bad knee I'd have been a half decent player. It's a strange kind of tribute I know, but I am strange.I played against him at schoolboy level, when he played for St Thomas Moore in Denton,he was awesome at 14 years old, just ran the show,I've met him a few times since & he's one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet, even named a few of the lads on our school team who he remembered,& that was getting on for thirty tears ago. He's never forgotten his roots & I hope his 'roots' never forget him...
