From an era when you could like other teams and footballers. Probably last time I watched England and actually supported them. Top shirt as well. Rest in Peace Mr Mariner.

He played for Plymouth vs City in the 1974 League Cup semi -finals.I can't remember the 2 individual match scores,but obviously City won over the 2 legs.

Top player, had a bit of finesse about his play, which suited Ipswich as they were a good passing team. Always thought he would have been goog playing for us.
Always came across as a likeable person as well.

Superb player in his heyday and Robson had a wonderful attacking team at Ipswich.I couldn`t quite believe how we beat them at Villa Park in that superb semi-final but what a goal to win it with from PP.

That Ipswich team of the mid 70s/early 80s had a bit of a jinx on City at Portman Rd, we seemed to lose there nearly every season in the league and Mariner was a big part of that, an excellent striker.

Sad news, he was a good player.. although I did notice towards the end of his career he turned into the centre-forward who spent his time marking the opposition centre-half.. (..especially when playing for England!!)

Liked the bloke during his paying days and was a decent analyst on ESPN with a sense of humour who could take the mickey out of himself.

RIP Paul always sad when you go before your time but I am sure you packed a lot into your life and your family will be with again in the full time of time.

Very sad news.

He made his name at Plymouth, alongside Billy Rafferty, and their goals were instrumental in Argyle gaining promotion to Division Two in 1975.

He is obviously much better known for his time at Ipswich and for his international career.

Gone much too young.

Dont recall him being particularly dirty. And those are the proper hard men. Barely a foul but leave u black n blue
