Paul Pogba

What everyone is forgetting is that this season is make or break for them. If they fail to get top 4 AND are stuck with Rooney, Ibra and Pogba on stupid wages their could be a major, major financial problem there.

In 10 years time they will be out of the competitive leagues altogether, playing a succession of meaningless but hyped up freindlies, in stadiums various around the world. Rather like the Haarlem Globetrotters. Possibly including the use of ladders and sticking the ball up the back of their shirts.
Old Trafford will be abandoned and derelict. It hasn't received any funding to upgrade facilities for years now.
This will all be funded by sponsorship and TV monies. Players just past their sell by dates will retire to this circus.
This is where they are headed, and this can't come quickly enough for me. Their business model dictates this, they simply can't exist in competitions where they may fail.

I don't think even relegation with half a dozen players on £300k a week would put them in financial difficulties.
There's too many sycophants that swallow every bit of nonsense wrote or spoken about them. They beat Wigan the other night in a friendly and it was headline sports news. The media find positives for them that would be deemed as adversities for anyone else.

Sky reporting he had the most shots on target in Serie A. You'd think they'd talk about his goal stats.... but went on about fouls instead!
Pogba's stats are mostly a bit rubbish.

Of any midfielder in europe:

Most shots
25th most goals
6th most assists (fair play, decent)
61st most completed passers
100th for tackles won
254th for pass accuracy

Even when we wanted him i was saying he was over rated (not just since the rags came into it) and dammit I'm sticking to it.

Disappears for the majority of the game to produce the odd flash of brilliance. You're paying for charisma and YouTube highlights.

And imagine the furore if we did.
He won't be branded a flop if he doesn't have a great first season, the media and pundits will back him unlike if he signed for us,i think it shows a weakness in maureen for needing to sign him to show his power, bit sad really

Anyone got a comparison with KDB stats?

Just seen him on Sky MUFCTV Sports landing in Miami and pretending to be a gangster. Looked a right knob. No thanks. And if he's worth 120mil after what I've seen of him in the euros and champs league final last year then good luck to the scum. Not a chance. 50/60 tops in todays market. Yes he's better than what they have, but to me it'd be an ego signing and not a game changer in my opinion. Not as worried about them signing him as I was before

I assume Rooney is going to expect a payday out of this as well, can't see him being happy about not being the top earner? Otherwise, he'll be mithering for a move again (though I wonder if they are ready to cash in on him while someone might still be foolish enough to buy).

He's not worth anywhere near that amount, and there must surely be a 'mercenary' tag attached to him given the circumstances (Europa League, team he left acrimoniously, widely known to want Madrid but they don't seem committed yet etc - can only be for the money?), but you have to say they have got balls (if not intelligence) when it comes to splashing out in the windows.

Pogba will bring them 'box office appeal', but amusingly that's the one thing they don't really need. He certainly can't bring value at those numbers.

I take it we've persuaded ourselves that we don't want him now and that he'll actually be a burden to them.

Would have been a brilliant signing for us - shame.

It seems we backed away from the insanity of the cost, not the player. I have mixed feeling about that, but think I'm on the side of we did the right thing on this occasion.
