Paul Simpson

Remember Him coming down to Fog Lane Park and taking training with my team at Beaver Road school 35 years ago! He gave us a load of JD sports key rings. Has a great career in the game. I hope he fights it well and is healthy again soon.

Had a loan spell at Finn Harps before becoming the hero of the '85 promotion run in. Hope treatment goes well and he beats this bastard of a disease.
Yep, Simmo and John Beresford (a young central midfielder at City but later a decent full back for Keegan’s Newcastle) were sent to Finn Harps in Donegal for a few months. I think they might have been managed or coached at the time by someone McNeill knew from his time at Celtic

All the best Paul. Great memories of Pompey away Charlton and Huddersfield.
He was also manager of England U17's with Phil Foden who won the world cup

Hoping for a speedy and successful recovery.
He was under 20s manager who won the World Cup the same year. This is an odd one as UEFA comps were usually under 21 and FIFA had the Under 20s, and players were not neccesarily released for the under 20s so Foden never played for him.

Always came across as a very down to earth player who had time for the fans

Remember the Blackburn promotion game and seeing him walking down the hill towards the stadium, there was just a rolling chant of One Paul Simpson as he passed the hundreds of blues making their way to the ground, must have been a cracking buzz for him.

Best wishes Paul, you're a fighter and you can beat this bastard.
