During the Cheesy interview Simmo mentioned some fans had gotten into the dressing room at half time against Notts County wanting to remonstrate with the players. We were 3-0 down. Made me laugh. They must've been livid. Apparently big Mick McCarthy was the only one interested in arguing with them. Be interesting to see of any bluemooners know about this incident or had friends involved.
I remember this incident. It was front page news at the time.

It was a potential promotion decider and we took 12,000 fans, taking over large parts of the ground. Typical City went 3-0 down at half time and a section of our fans rioted, ripping fences down and running on the pitch. Some of those fans invaded the dressing room and were giving abuse to the players and staff. Typical City again came out galvanised and pulled it back to 3-2. We then won promotion the follwoing week with a 5-1 win in front of a full house at Maine Road.

Thanks for that. Absolute bedlam in both ends. Proper little ground, packed to the rafters with passionate fans.
Great goal from Simmo, superb lob. Get well soon. We're all rooting for you.
Was in the Pompey end as a 12 year old kid....was too young to understand the naughtiness of it. Went bonkers when Simmo scored and think my Dad really crapped himself thinking we was going to get a hiding because of my innocent cheering. To be fair nowt happened.

Tried to replicate that Simmo goal for weeks after that in school playground could never get it to perfection though.

Him, Dave Phillips and big Alex Williams were my favorite players in that pretty mundane team.

Get well Paul!

It was an interesting day out as a 16 year, that’s for sure! McNeil had to come out to appeal to the crowd if I remember correctly!

my dad worked at Reynolds for years. Can’t picture the estate you refer. I remember him living in digs with Perry Suckling on kings way.

It was a new housing estate built in the mid 80's. If you drive down burnage lane towards Stockport, You can't miss them on the left. Alex Williams also lived on the houses built behind parrs wood fields. Near the Dog a partridge on Didsbury road.

Mark Lillis was in Fog lane park all the time, probably for his soccer school and Ken Barnes scouting in his flat cap.

Before my time but I remember him being head and shoulders above everyone else in The Masters. Hope for a speedy recovery.

He got player of the tournement in a 6 a side in Australia, I think we came second, it was shown on a Sunday afternoon over here guessing 1987.

I was gutted when Simmo was out of favour and remember Jimmy Frizzell being asked about him possibly moving on..... 'Pure speculation' was the reply which I knew meant he was on his way and Gleghorn would play instead
