Pedro Porro

I am stating nothing, but if we are buying a RB for 50Mwho is first chpice at his club, I cannot see it is to sit on the bench.

I refer my last post below, I have no idea if he comes and if he plays and really my opinion doesn't matter, and I am not for or against him coming or Nunes changing roles.

Doesn't matter what I think, you think or what Pep thought or what has happened, the next manager may not see it that way.
I can see both getting plenty of game time. Porro appears to be better creatively and a better crosser while Nunes is much better in duels and ariel duels. Porro will probably be favoured against low block teams and Nunes in the more physical games against the likes of Arsenal or Brentford I would have thought.

First thing I always do when we're seriously linked to a player is look at the forum of the team we're supposed to be buying them from.

Some quotes from the Pedro Porro thread on The Fighting Cock ever since we were linked to him...

Positive
"We should keep him. We start selling experienced players again and we are going to leave ourselves short."
"If we’re basically swapping Porro for Savinho so that Spence can ping in his one wasted cross per match then it’s a hard no from me."
"Getting rid of not one but two progressive passers for a manager who prioritises progressive passing isn't the best idea. There's a reason why City want him."
"We aren't selling him for more than £50m, and I don't trust us to upgrade on Porro. Big mistake on selling him."
"Porro is one of the few world class players we have and people want to sell him."
"The people who want to sell Porro are the same people who were happy that Levy sold Kyle Walker to City."
"His almost injury-free records with us is priceless considering how bad our injuries have been."
"I think De Zerbi's style suits him. He's been allowed to roam a bit and has really improved. I hope he stays unless we get a serious upgrade."
"I'd rather we keep Porro, unless his head's been fully turned and he is insistent on leaving."
"Porro has responded well to De Zerbi, he was starting to show some consistency."

Neutral
"I like Porro but for a good offer I would be open to sell."
"Seems a consistent Spanish international now. £60m odds and above would be sweet."
"We should only sell him if we have a player coming in that we are confident is better than him."
"I was just beginning to warm up to him again in last couple of weeks, and remember how good he can be."
"We've missed the chance to cash in on players before, if the offer is a good one (£50m+) then let's take the money."
"Porro's got some significant strengths but also has some significant weaknesses. He's a player that would be nice to keep if De Zerbi wants him, but we'd likely improve defensively if he did leave tbh."

Negative
"Get fucking rid. Been beyond useless."
"If they want to give us 50 million for a bloke bollocking young players for applauding the fans take the money and run."
"Holy shit, I'll drive him to the airport and pitch in some funds myself."
"People tends to forget how bad he could really be. I'm sick of his overhit passes, crosses and corners. And I'm not even talking about his poor defending yet."
Shit at corners? He'll fit right in then

The thing is I reckon a lot of that is down to playing style rather than ability. You could definitely get Nunes to have the same profile as Porro just by giving him more licence to get forward.
Was going to say this, Porro is one of their most creative players, whereas we use Nunes to stop counter-attacks and largely just support whoever is infront of him.

Not good enough and never will be, unless the aim is to finish between 8th-13th. If hes worth £50m, then Anderson for £100m is bargain of the century.

I'm happy if the club or Maresca have identified a new right back as a high priority, as we haven't had a technically good right back forever, at least not one who can do at least a reasonable level of the defensive element (which completely rules out Lewis, who is technically good).

Nunes has filled in at this position fairly well overall, but he's a million miles away from being technically good enough either controlling the ball or passing it.
Look at a team like PSG where every player is completely comfortable when being pressed, either to carry the ball, or one touch pass in order to break the press. Nunes is not capable to do this, and we absolutely should be looking for an upgrade.
Porro is quality on the ball, and certainly way better than Lewis defensively

Porro isn't better than Nunes, in fact don't think there is a better right back in the PL than Nunes last season.

There have been some better RBs than Nunes. Timber, Matty Cash, Livramento (when fit). Wouldn’t sign Livramento or cash though obviously and Timber would be a non starter. But I agree I don’t see Porro as being much better if at all so would be a waste of money imo.

If you can’t significantly upgrade Nunes go and get a younger understudy with a higher ceiling to take some minutes from Nunes this season with view to taking over in the first 11 in another year if it works out.

We’ve been doing that across the pitch but ended up with players who cannot get into the starting eleven and then flounder when thrown in at the deep end, unsurprisingly.

The fullbacks arguably have the hardest job on the pitch, but they need to be used properly and rotated regularly. If we get Porro, I reckon we’ll have the best quartet we’ve had since 2013-14. Keeping them all fit and happy will be the hardest thing.
