No - loaned out abroad the entire time he was at City.would he count as hg and club trained? think he spent 3 years on the books
Ok I'll concede it's not... but near on 750,000 miles off surely?I don’t think it’s a million miles off.
Disagree. Fernandinho is the obvious example to use but its not even about performing til 35. When you need something you sign what you need, with the dynamic of youth and experience in mind. We lack players in the 26 to 30 sweet spot currently. You then sign the best 27/28 you can find to enhance the squad. When they turn 31 it has already been a lifetime in football.28 is a bit late to sign for City tbh
We bought Akanji and won the treble.
I can understand your argument, but at the same time, we have to remember that we actually won a Champions League final whilst not even playing one fullback. Times have changed, of course, and my greatest concern in the Champions League now is how we cope against PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid when it gets to the knock-out stages. The problem is imo is that at the very top level ie top champions league sides none of them are good enough. I think in time Nico O will be. Right now he’s more than good enough in the PL but he’s still learning his trade as a full back and will take another couple years until you can confidently stick him against any winger in the world. The other 3 simply not good enough at top CL level and never will be.
Signing a guy passed on by Txiki a few years ago and him turning out to be a dud would sum up Viana's time here so far.Oh how the mighty fall. If this is the standard we’re going for then I think we’re in trouble. Viana is so low rent - not a patch on Txixi!
may i recommend Andrei Ratiu, if we are looking at player with paceI can understand your argument, but at the same time, we have to remember that we actually won a Champions League final whilst not even playing one fullback. With Porro, we could have 4 fullbacks but none are blessed with blistering pace. Nunes has greatly improved, to be sure, but it was only in March that Guardiola benched him because he remains vulnerable when exposed to pace, just as he was last time in Paris. However, even if we could find two elite fullbacks with pace, come spring they would be frazzled; you need physicality to play in England. Rather than look for a small squad of elite players, we’re clearly hoping that quantity can sustain us for longer and that collective strength can prove superior to individual brilliance. It looks like we might be on the cusp of having 4 solid fullbacks, so our challenge will be utilising them in such a way that when they face these teams in the spring, they’re all fit and all confident.
Their lives and ours would also be made easier if we had a central midfield that could get back quickly in support, but that’s a discussion for another thread.
wouldn't be better to sign Ratiu ?

I’m not looking for blistering pace. I think the club is prioritising domestic experience and looking to make us collectively solid and physically powerful. Those attributes should see us prevail in our League, but the question then is how effective are they when facing Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG in a knock-out game.may i recommend Andrei Ratiu, if we are looking at player with pace
Nunes is a top 3 RB in the prem and he isn’t third. There have been some better RBs than Nunes. Timber, Matty Cash, Livramento (when fit). Wouldn’t sign Livramento or cash though obviously and Timber would be a non starter. But I agree I don’t see Porro as being much better if at all so would be a waste of money imo.
If you can’t significantly upgrade Nunes go and get a younger understudy with a higher ceiling to take some minutes from Nunes this season with view to taking over in the first 11 in another year if it works out.
