Pellegrini - The English Managers Syndrome

Bluemoon - the most disloyal, entitled, ungrateful internet fans forum in English football. And that includes red cafe.
That's rubbish and you know it. The vast (often silent) majority of people who post on here, are nothing like what you describe, a small number could be described that way, a small number.

If you bothered, you would find plenty of good debate, in this thread and others.

Why do you stay if you dislike BM so much,oh wait.....;)

Fair point Karen, I actually love BM, I just get soooo frustrated. As I did with the last mgrs outers. If anything MP gets it worse which isn't great for my blood pressure.

I totally understand the frustration i feel it too, that is most of what is going on here at the moment, only a few being silly and wanting mp fired now which wouldn't solve anything, not long to wait now,in the meantime lets win something, anything, i'd take best chips in the north lol

Do you think this season is any better than last season? I'm not sure, performance wise, anyway. Unless I have just erased last season from my memory..! However, as you say, we are still in all competitions. You would expect us to beat Villa in the FA Cup, Kiev in the CL, and the neutral would probably expect us to overturn the deficit and progress to the LC Final (although I would dread a final against Liverpool!!). And, the way the league is, who knows what could happen - it is so close at the top, that if we put a run together, then we could easily pull away. Thing is, there is nothing to suggest we will do that - we haven't won back to back games since October, which is pretty concerning.

I am so disappointed with the season, and the inability to get the most out of the players, but when you take a step back, and look at the situation as it is, there is still a lot to go at, if we just sort ourselves out.
It's similar to last season, definitely. But I retain belief that things will 'click' and I'm relieved that everyone else is misfiring. But yes, I keep believing it will happen but then week after week we play well in patches and make silly errors at centre half. De Michelis is costing us a goal a game and before that mangala was. I bet the manager is frustrated as fuck but it's his job to keep them calm and I still see belief so that that run does come and floods is with more belief.

I will tell you what, I'm sick to the back teeth of watching us chase games after conceding.

Pellers is a puzzle. His first season was the best I've seen in 60 years of watching City but I do ask myself whether Pellers can claim the credit or whether the trophies were earned by some truly exceptional individuals. At the start of the season things did not look promising. At home we had a very dicey game against Hull but apart from that we annihilated all comers so that by Christmas we had won all eight, scoring 36 and conceding only 5: away we lost 4 of our first 6 and only won one. Away from the Etihad we lacked any kind of solidity in central midfield, we were not compact and our central defenders had no screen. At corners players were left unmarked and allowed free headers. What saved us was that Kompany missed only one match after the end of November, MDM was a regular from October onwards and gradually settled into an excellent partnership with Vinnie, Zaba was in sensational form all season, Clichy played well at LB and Kolorov too when he played. Ferna was excellent, Ya Ya unbelievable, Silva a real magician, Samir had some great games when David was out, Javi Garcia brought solidity to central midfield as the season progressed, Milner all energy and work rate, Negredo a goal machine up to Christmas, Dzeko got vital goals as the season neared its end and Sergio was just a goal machine full stop. Joe had a dodgy spell early on but was the real Joe Hart from then on. The reality was that we had so many players at the top of their game that someone always baled us out at times of "difficulty": at other times they just won us the game. When the whole team was anything like we scored sixes and sevens.

Last season we were not the same team, and this season we are not the same team. One reason is that we are literally not the same team: Vinnie has hardly played and he really is irreplaceable, David has missed a fair few matches through injury but he has not been in good form either and Ya Ya is demonstrably not the same player he was 2 seasons ago and Sergio has been a serious loss in many games so far. My problem is that Pellers has done nothing to counter the cumulative effects of these injuries and loss of form of some ageing players. Ferna has been brilliant, but Ya Ya never had the physique to be convincing when having to turn and tackle just in front of the back four. David does not make central midfield either more solid or more compact when he plays in front of Ya Ya. MDM has never been a pacey player and now he is in his mid thirties. Thorough bread race horses up front we are cart horses at the back. But what does Pellers do? He persists with two CMs and tells the back four to hold a high line and the reult is other teams sit back, let us stretch the play, as though we're dancing round a huge hole in the middle of the field and then break with pace. I can't help thinking that these tactics are the ones our team was built to adopt. Defend deep and use the pace of Sergio, Raheem, Navas and KdB. Even Ya Ya would get some excellent runs forward in. But our manager is determined that Silva, Kdb, Ya Ya and Sterling should play (or any three) along with Sergio in the same way we played two seasons ago. They saved him then, but they're finding the going a bit tougher now. They may pull it off in England, but we're a long way short in Europe.

I assume you are @Pell not Pep ;-) as he has gone and you are everywhere repeating yourself a million times?

Gone where? Been busy. I might make a few guest appearances if your all polite to me. (Cue plenty of f'off's) Looking forward to the business end of the season. Think I'll go for domestic clean sweep & CL semi.

Looking forward to seeing the team he puts out tonight, will he stick with his Mr Dependable's?, we'll see.

Looking forward to it? It's closer to dread than excitement for me. We've long passed the stage where we hoped he'd learn his lesson and adapt. It's reached the point where you just hope he hasn't effectively lost us the game before we've even started with his lineups.

Tonight's game is crucial for me. We have a far superior team to Everton, are playing at home. We have to make up a deficit of one goal. If Pellegrini has anything about him at all this should be doable. Surely he can motivate the guys for this one. Wembley awaits.
