Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

Well Rodri scored, but he is just as bad as the rest. They should set time aside after every training session to try everyone at penalties. Surely there must be somebody who can do the job?
Sheared said on motd that 3 days before the match he would study the opposition keeper to find his weak side. Then he would practice for 3 days smashing pens to the weak side. A simple solution to a simple problem.

Sounds so obvious, surely we do our homework on the opposition’s goalie and practice penalties. Sadly it doesn’t look like we do. Even when Eddie passed a message to Rhodri via Bernie that the goalie usually dives to his right, Rhodri still put it to the right.

Every penalty we get from now on Ederson should stroll up and when everyone's ready he should get to his mark, wink at the opposing keeper, run up and smash it straight down the middle. Even if the idiot standing on his line knows that Eddie is gonna do this they're not gonna stand in the way of one of his thunderbastards unless they want a few weeks in traction.

Curious to see what the defensive setup looks like on an Ederson pen. It’s not just a case of running back ASAP, there’s plenty of other details to think about. You 100% need somebody in the keeper position to stop the long rangers. Then a setup that stops a counter.

I’d argue you just go super cautious and setup almost like it was a kickoff with all 10 other players in their normal position and not bother with rebounds etc - just treat it as one hit to score and if not they have to get through a full team to get a shot on an outfield player and no counter threat. That combined with a full press should buy the time needed for Ederson to get back

Well, no because unless the keeper holds on to it( barely ever happens even from soft as shite pens) you just commit a foul in and around their box and get a booking at worst. It’s really no big deal him taking them if he’s actually better than our current takers.

So we find a keepers so called weaker side and continuously put the ball in that direction. What happens if the keeper is aware of his weak side and knows were it is going? Not very clever is it.

Penalty taking is partly about skill and prep work but mainly about confidence. Our great penalty takers of recent years had the latter commodity in abundance and rarely failed to net. One of the best Yaya, apparently claimed he never missed in training either.

Such a level of accuracy is of course rare but we should be able to find someone who can hit at least 16 out of 20. Kun is probably nearest that rate although he is not on the field that much these days.

Mahrez was given it on the back of his performance in training, and then missed more often than not in actual matches.

Tactical foul before a pass forward or a shot even happens, take a booking.
