Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

Bending a ball up and over a wall and into the top corner is a skill, having a free shot on goal should not be labelled a skill and certainly not for people getting over 150k a week to kick a fucking ball, it really is a basic level of competence for a footballer and as I am ranting may as well say about kicking with their "weaker" foot 200k players really shouldn't have a weaker foot.

Carry on.

Professional 'strikers' should be able to consistently place a ball in a spot that even an eight foot keeper couldn't get!

K well unfortunately that is not the case. You are entitled to be annoyed about it but some players are good at free kicks and just not good at penalties. One of which is only bloody Lionel Messi, lol. It's just the reality of football.
The point was they shouldn't be not that they can't it is blatantly obvious some can't but as a pro footballer a free shot from 12 yards should be every strikers dream. It still doesn't make it a skill, occasionally a keeper will pull a blinder out of the bag and that is fair enough but Sterlings the other day would have been embarrassing for an 8yo and Aguero isn't much better nor was Tevez.

Given Pep's obsessive attention to detail, it's a bit puzzling as to why our penalty results aren't much better - you'd think that - as my football coach did when I was a youth player - hold a prematch, practice penalty shootout - whoever wins the shootout contest is our penalty taker for that game (and if for some reason not on the field, the 2nd place taker, and so on).

Given the amount of times we've witnessed poor penalty kicks by our players this season, who would you suggest is given the role of kicking a football 10 yards into a goal? My money would be on Ederson!

Not bad suggestion but the danger is the opposition could score from the kick off (or from the penalty miss) with Eddy sprinting back.

KDB or Bernardo.

Aguero, no.
GJ, no.
Sterling, definitely no.
Mahrez, no.
Gundogan, maybe but unless we've got an injury crisis, he shouldn't be on the pitch.

Gundogan is reliable from the spot but isn't always on the pitch.

Is their some reason Kev never does it?

He missed the one he has taken. Maybe he doesn’t fancy it but I would have thought a player like him wouldn’t let a penalty miss affect him. To be honest I don’t fancy any of them on the pitch. Maybe Zinchenko.

Jesus has missed 6 out of last 10. That is criminal for a forward and terrible planning allowing someone with a record like that to take it! Similar to Mahrez when he took the one at Anfield.

I reckon Rodri would be a decent taker but then I thought Jesus would too, it's pathetic from the team n management.

Gundogan is good at them but you can't keep playing him just for his penalties. Zinchenko is good at them but isn't on the pitch enough. I'd just let Sergio keep hitting them he's not the best but he deserves the chance to keep adding goals, if not Serg then yh let Eddie have a hit.

Aguero is 46/58 in career which whilst not Yaya or Balotelli standard is pretty decent.

What I don't understand is Auero misses penalties but always gets to take them, Jesus misses penalties but always gets to take them, Sterling misses penalties but gets the opportunity to take them.
Mahrez misses one Penalty ( I fucking key one mind ) and never gets a sniff again.

Now if Pep has so little confidence in him taking them why did he ever take one against the dippers?
