Pep’s Spurs (H) Post-Match Interview

could you suggest how we positively reinforce them putting in a bit of effort and not giving away two daft goals in the final minutes of the first half then? It's quite difficult for 50k people to do that in unison, much easier to say that was shit, don't do it again.

The negative part of booing or grumbling is if it happens at the start, from every misplaced pass or miscontrol. That's what puts pressure on players and they stop performing because they're just trying to avoid a mistake. If anyone is too delicate to accept someone telling them that, on that day, they're doing a shit job I'd suggest they're not cut out for that or any other job.
Well, I was referring to the sustained booing that you often hear at Anfield or Old Trafford (and elsewhere), which we seem to agree is counterproductive (and just fucking stupid).

And I would say the positive ways to reinforce them playing well are pretty obvious—we’ve done many times over many years. Not booing them off the pitch after a crazy 2 minutes is a good start.

He construed it as such because any real supporter knows the performance was not lacking the first 43 minutes- we were not firing on all cylinders but for the most part had a fair handle on it until Eddie's clusterfuck pass resulting in a goal and the next breakdown in extra time. If you roundly boo "your club" whom you purportedly support for playing be better overall for 96% of the first half than they have vs. lesser opponents of late... you're entitled, spoiled and have no idea WTF you're watching.
the performance was not lacking, yet Pep also said about no passion and that with performances like that we'll win nothing. I'd suggest that if Pep had been in the stands, he'd have booed as well. And if any of us had been able to take his position in the dressing room, we'd have probably said similar as what he clearly said to them from his comments after the game and their 2nd half performance

Sustained booing? Often at anfield and old Trafford. Sounds good, certainly isn’t true though

I'll go with Pep, though, who clearly tore them a new one at half-time because the first-half was passive and lacking in any real threat.

Pep isn't fooling anyone when he said we were better than Spurs in the first half.

That's like saying Kylie Minogue is easier on the eye than Theresa May.

I like to think I know what I am watching, and too many players have been dialling it in for weeks.

so not what happened last night then? So not really relevant?
It is relevant, see my edit. But part of my comments throughout have also been about being careful not to become the thing we mock and deride regularly.

And if people get the idea booing is somehow a good way to motivate the team to do whatever it is they want them to do, we’ll just become the rags or the dippers.

I think it probably had little to do with it.
It had zero to do with it as you only respond to that as a player if you've indeed been playing for shite the entire half... they weren't. Whatever was said at the half and whomever said it need to keep doing so. I am betting Ruben peeled some paint and made a few hands go trembly. I think his steel in vocal leadership is long missed in this club. Fuck the know nothing elitist spoiled "my first City kit was Grealish and second was Haaland" so called fans who know less about football than the average 6 year old kid playing the game.

He didn’t though.

I happen to think those booing are showing signs of entitlement (perhaps not yet entitled, per say), and the media are definitely spinning it that way (if we didn’t want them to do that we shouldn’t have booed).

But he didn’t say anything to that effect. In fact, he purposefully didn’t directly answer the question about booing. At least not the interview I saw.

Not directed at you, but an added point to what you are saying.

Complacency has somehow been changed to entitlement. Because I am pretty sure he said complacent. He was also talking about various levels right through the club, including, most of all, the team. The fans will become the easy target focus, though, inevitably.

FTMP agreed. They didn't play well and were passive in attack, but I contend they played better the first 43 of the first than they have vs. what are lesser clubs the last few outings. The lack of service and passivity has been building for awhile- it's not just going to magically go away in one first half.

Agreed. Entitlement is a word I have used regarding how it comes off to me personally when fans defend the booing as warranted or a good way to motivate the team. I know people disagree with me and I am happy to defend my stance (I already have at length). But you are right that he didn’t say that and I don’t actually think he meant that, either.

He meant complacency across the club, and I personally think he had a point and yesterday was the right moment to publicly call it out.
