Pep BBC 5 live

Haven't heard it all I will download and listen to what I missed later .
Kyle and Zab were great.
I thought Chapman and Balague were talking at cross purposes for awhile when taliking about whether Pep had had to adjust to England and Balague was talking about his footballing tactics and philosophy and Chapman appeared to be thinking about how he handled the media was the important aspect.

I found it interesting that Balague kind of talked over what the players actually said.

He kind of pushed the typical nerd argument on here; that Pep just turns up & does the same thing as he did anywhere else. Wheras they, particularly Zabba, were almost saying the opposite, with Zabba talking about how he wanted them to control 2nd balls vs long ball teams etc (something Pep clearly said last season) & as opposed to 'go forward and express yourself' Walker was saying that the opposite is sometimes the cae, that he has to stay back & 'control his winger'.

I don't think he is the manager the books portray him as, at all, from the selections we see in certain games & again from this piece tonight, he is far more savvy & open minded about how to win games, & will adapt if he has to, not some idealistic mentalist.

Balague did mention that Pep is an ideas thief and he is always learning. The fundamentals don't change with Pep but the refinements and variations on a theme will keep coming.

What I do want to see from Pep is a willingness, very occasionally, to have his team sit back and not leave space behind. I've said before that I was delighted with how he went to a 5-4-1 at Spurs and we saw some good old fashioned bodies in the way defending. We shouldn't need to do it often but we should be able to do it when the occasion demands. Pep has to choose the right approach to royally fuck Liverpool next season when we play them. I know if we play our usual game well enough we can do them but reduce the risks for once.

The programme is worth visiting iPlayer for and Kyle is excellent.

Listening now but what a ball ache it seems to use iplayer it is and it's getting worse, on top of making you sign in which is just unnecessary. There's stuff not loading far too frequently AND you have to mess about with settings to get it working with nordvpn at all.

Yes it's very well worth a listen.

I got the impression from Ballague, that he's already updated his book with more of the same; that Pep just did what he did at Barca, in the Prem & it's just that the players took time to adapt (which of course is true in many respects). But I don't think he wanted to hear people such as Walker & Zabba explaining how Pep has adapted, (maybe because he didn't notice, so hasn't written it, or wants to be seen as the man who first mentioned it).

I actually thought it was hilarious when Pep went all Fat Sam vs Spurs & won the game with five at the back & 1 upfront. And I find it bizarre how it has received so little consideration, for example on here, & by pundits in general.

I think it's upset so many people's agenda, that they have just blanked it out of their minds. The computer nerds who think Pep's biographies are like the Bible & he 'always' has a Poncyetto at number 8 & a Fartaroundo at 6 & prefers defenders to stand on one leg at corners etc & of course for those who said he can't adapt to the Prem, a Pep who can run fucking rings round everbody with his passing game, then switch to destroying them at their own game, would be their worst nighmare.

I thought that both Ballague and Ladyman were peddling their own agenda. Ladyman in particular defending the English press pack last season and their standard of questioning during press conferences. He made a big deal about how ‘superior’ Pep acted last season but how he had been calmer this season. I thought he talked a load of bollocks frankly. Ballague peddled his own ideas and reflected his books. He did throw in some interesting comments ‘Pep is happy for the first time in his career’ ‘Pep will renew year on year’. Pat Nevis was an obvious disciple and was extremely positive. It was interesting that the one topic they glossed over was referees. Ballague mentioned that the inconsistency of referees was Peps biggest shock in England albeit he had been warned before the event. I thought that got pretty cursory discussion (there is a surprise). Overall though found it enjoyable and was pleased to hear the ongoing revisionism by the English media. They always thought he was a great coach and would succeed in the Premier League where they had welcomed him with open arms!

Haha yes, that was hilarious & complete bollocks. A handful welcomed him, the rest were desperate for him to fuck up & delighted in every setback (as some are still doing).

Thought Nevin was excellent, & loved it when he was asked what his experience of football coaching over here was & he replied "neanderthal". Exact phrase I sometimes use to describe them, but coming from a top pro, just proves what so many of us have been saying, even for years before Pep arrived.

Yeah, only two PL managers have been honest about Pep and City - Woy, who has stated that English coaches must take the opportunity to learn from Pep while he is here and fat Sam admitting that Citys recent destruction of Everton was the first time in 25 years he didn’t have a clue what to do tactically. The rest were yeah, but..... It was really brilliant to hear about the team spirit, which mainly comes from the players according to Kyle, and how highly the Players respect, trust and like Guardiola (Kyle and Zaba, and Kolorov in his recent interview). Made me very proud that this was our club being described. It sounds like he will renew a year ahead every year until he or we decide different. I think that shows a mature approach from both sides.

I hope he stays for a long time.

But whatever, we have a very special bloke in charge & should savour every minute of it & as a club, try to learn as much as possible from him, whilst he's here.

Signing in is to control content with respect to rights and TV license I find iPlayer app to be really good I’m sat on holiday in Spain and it works flawlessly on 4G The only issue I have is finding content I had to use the link posted above to open the browser which then linked to the app
