Of course, and we all question want went wrong after a defeat if this if that. I have no problem with questioning or discussing Pep’s decisions in hindsight. My big problem with some of the complaints are thinking they know better before the games or thinking he’ made decisions that didn’t work on purpose.
He goes into every game with a plan meticulously, obsessively worked out sees stuff before a game no other manager sees. Nearly all of the times it works , it’s why he wins so much. Sometimes it doesn't we have to accept that you can’t have the mad genius without the mistakes he is what he is. Sometimes he can be a bit weird most of the cleverest people are.
I agree with the last bit for sure, when team news comes out we all have an opinion on it,when you see him persisting with gundy, dave and rodders together despite the fact it makes us slow and difficult to counter then it does usually result in the same problems,of course he sees things we don't but i do think he complicates things sometimes and if 1 or 2 players have an off day then the plan doesn't work at all
Only the terminally stupid want him to leave though

Well thats the thing in a nutshell isn’t it he was trying to keep 4 balls in the air, if that one hadn’t dropped maybe we wouldn’t have won those 14 games and we’d have dropped the league ball. Easy to pick odd mistakes we aren’t the ones managing a squad over 4 competitions and seeing the whole picture. We won 3 that’ll do me, no body else has ever done what we did, some are never satisfied.
I generally agree with you but, to be fair, this is a forum, so the point is to talk about perceived issues and discuss how we think they could be improved or how we disagree they are issues at all.

Of course none of us are anywhere near as talented and knowledgable as Pep — I don’t think anyone has claimed to be — and most all of us, even when criticising something Pep has done, hold him up as one of the great managers in football history. That reality doesn’t make him infallible, though, and it certainly does not mean people can’t discuss their assessments of his performance. What purpose would this thread have otherwise?

I would also point out that Pep is firmly in the “some are never satisfied” group, so those participating in this thread are in very good company indeed. ;-)

Penalties are a mentality thing as well. If you look back at various quarter and semi finals of Guardiolas teams theres a tale of a missed penalty somewhere in the tie. He must hate them.

Probably just a coincidence.

I think most managers hate penalties because they take actions and outcomes almost entirely out of their hands. No matter the practice (or lack thereof) you put in to them during training, they are duels, unlike general play, and that is ultimately down to two players and their own private game theory. Especially shoutouts, as they are their own mini game of a series of duels with cumulative impacts.

Those have always been my least favourite bit of any tournaments I have coached youngsters in, because it can also be the most devastating for them. If you lose a match, even badly, most of the time it’s a collective loss and the burden is shared. But with penalties often one person feels responsible, whether for scoring (and winning) or missing (and losing). That’s a very different sort of potential perceived burden that you have to work hard to ensure is shared with the team so as to not discourage that player.

Pep Guardiola on #ManCity: “I’ve been here for four seasons. It is a club with very very good things and we also make mistakes. But I think it is a team, a club and an organisation that is working incredibly well in many, many, many things."

Pep Guardiola on the #ManCity Amazon documentary: “Maybe Manchester City is not well known around the world like United, or Liverpool, or Barcelona or Madrid, so people here saw it as a way of showing who you are as a club and organisation around the world."

“Last year was extraordinary but people say ‘You didn’t win the Champions League’. I will be judged if we don’t win it in my final period here - I will be a failure, I know. But I enjoy working with my players, they still win a lot of games.”

"It is a perfect season when you win all the titles. I am proud of my team. We won the first title with the Community Shield and are in the Carabao Cup final..."

"Winning the league won’t be far away for Liverpool, but they’d be champions in Timbuktu, Australia and everywhere. We are in a good position to qualify for the Champions League and in that we face the kings of the competition..."

“But we will, of course, not just be judged on the way we play but the titles we win. That is the truth.”

Sounds like they were fishing for a failure headline

Thanks Pep.

He just can't help himself, can he.

I mean, you've selectively cut off the second half of the quote which makes that statement more appropriate. He's trying to explain how the Amazon documentary gave insight into a club which he said is doing amazing work, in a way that other clubs wouldn't needed because they're much more popular. Which unfortunately is true.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration especially given his comments about the attendance last week. I acknowledge he does have a habit of saying things that can be interpreted the wrong way and piss people off. And trust me, sometimes I think people are fine to get upset at the stuff he says.

But what you've done in your post is no better than what the hacks in the media have done. I want to be clear that I 100% believe you mean no malice, but I think given how aware we are of the vultures flying around we as fans have a duty to just be a little more careful with things like this. For one we know some journalists read these forums.

Although what he says is true i wish he wouldn't come out and say it all the time makes us look bad i wish he bigged us up instead of always calling us a small team.
