If he’s going next year can we really afford to give him £££ now for new players ?

Great to hear this. The players need to speak up also. Really hope Pep learns from this mistake.

I wondered after Daniel Taylor's article the other day about City history, when The Athletic would revert to type. What they don't seem to understand is that looking at the result, the manager's selection, and the formation, does not explain how a player like Sterling can come up with a totally inexplicable miss, nor for Eddie, sticky-gloved Eddie, dropping one, nor is Guardiola responsible for VAR allowing Lyon's second goal. I haven't read the whole article but I immediately took the view that it was back to normal with a swipe at City and Guardiola, and there's nothing oppo fans like than the suggestion that the players are in rebellious mood. Look at the near fisticuffs between Lindelhof and St. Bruno Pen KIng last night. Ollie immediately down plays it and sez it was just a wee bit of 'frustration'!

You just have to read this to know it's a completely bullshit re-hashed article they had prepared since the 1st leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu.

Except too bad for them Pep won the 1st leg, they excepted City to fall in the 2nd leg, so their article would still be relevant.

This reminds me of a quote of Thomas Müller where he said sometimes they were a bit confused because Pep did told them too many tactical things

It's another interesting article by them but there are plenty on here who simply won't have any of it because it's the Athletic.

It's hard to argue with Muller after nights like Saturday's:
In knockout games, Pep pays a lot of attention to opponents and their strengths. He is always a little torn between playing extreme attention and respect to the strength of the opposition — more so than against smaller teams — and sticking to his convictions and to a system he believes in; to go, ‘We will play with that risk because that’s who we are.’ Sometimes, it is not 100 per cent clear what we are doing.”
There's an anxiety around Pep during knockout games and I think that transmits to the players.

I’m still utterly bewildered by Saturday tbh. Why change the system which dominated even Real Madrid away from home. Fuck sake.

I’m still utterly bewildered by Saturday tbh. Why did Pep not change the system even though we all saw how we were struggling when we lost the FA Cup to Arsenal away from home. Fuck sake.

As much as I disagree with most of your posts I agree with the point that you seem to be making that changing or maintaining a setup doesn't make the difference.

It's not the fact that Guardiola changed the system or the players, it's just that he got it so incredibly wrong from the beginning and then stood there twitching for most of the game while it continued to not work.
