I thought it was absolutely outrageous that Pep didn't play Sané at all in his last season. Freezing him out like that was awful.
Probably would have beaten Spurs in the champions league if Sane had started in the first leg imo which makes this Garcia situation all the more frustrating. We did win the treble though so can’t complain really.I just don’t get the logic in starting Garcia over Stones especially after the Leicester game. West Ham’s only outlet yesterday was exploiting his lack of pace

Why?

He wasnt good enough. Sterling and Bernardo were playing better and both were nominated for player of the year that season.

Sané was on the bench for the second half of 18/19 because he wasnt good enough to get ahead of them.

Its fucking amazing the lengths people will go to. I tell you what would have made us win the spurs game- aguero scoring the penalty.

I hope you have not misunderstood my response to another poster. I understand Pep's family situation in as much as he has spoken about. I did not criticise Pep or claim that it was a matter of money. My point was for the Club to replace established legends with players who are of similar calibre, at the time of purchase, is almost impossible financially and practically.

No I was echoing your points.

One positive from yesterday is probably Pep should now be aware his approach isn't working and will opt for something new and will pick Foden / Ferran Torres.

I actually thought Sane had some cracking matches in the first half of that season tbf, the 6-1 win over southampton and 4-0 win against West Ham most notable in my mind. Personally I thought it was contract reasons rather than playing reasons his exclusion from the side or at least a lot less playing time. No coincidence how much our attacking play has diminished in the past 15 months without him. The early signs from Torres are encouraging though.

Pep doesn't give a shit about the contract situations. He plays the people who train well and play well.

Sané didn't play because he didn't follow instructions, so Pep was having a shouting match on the touchline with him every time he was on, and then the Sterling and (most importantly) Bernardo was much better than him when KDB came back.

And now he is playing Garcia because he rates him above Stones. Thats it. Hes the 4th choice CB, just been replaced by a £65m signing and some of you are pretending he is Peps favourite player and starting every game.

Was there any reasoning to the zinchenko sub yesterday? Was walker struggling? If it was purely tactical then it was a ridiculous change.

I am 50:50. To go or not to go. Honestly, I am more concern if we have someone better to step up.

Pocce? No. He can at tnx to Cekir for that Llorentes hand.

NES? Interesting

According to one of his incredibly insightful and interesting interviews,he wanted a right footed player on the right and a left footed player on the left.

Yep,ive still no idea myself......

and back in the real world, the actual reasoning...

"He (Walker) was exhausted," the manager said, saying he is likely to play in Marseille on Tuesday despite the fitness concerns. "He has played every minute here and with the national team. He is exhausted.
"I don't think [he will be rested in Marseille], tomorrow we will regenerate, we will travel to France and see how the people feel."

It was obvious Walker was blowing out of his arse. He even signalled to the bench to say he was done.

Thanks. I was hoping it wasn’t tactical.

He did say something about wanting to attack with more natural width because Cancelo kept coming inside as a reason why Zinchenko came on, but the reason Walker came off and not Cancelo was fatigue.
Just more baffling stuff from Pep. Zinchenko has never provided any width from the left in his career. Brilliant he mentions natural width on the left when Cancelo had got past people on the outside a few times but continues to play Sterling on the left providing no width whatsoever.

If instead it was Eric Deveraux wanting to run down his contract and go back to PSG - you think he gets anywhere near the team?

Garcia is treated differently because of who he is and where he is from. For me it is nonsense to assert otherwise.

Look at how Sane (actually a good player) got frozen out when he made it evident he wasn't renewing.
Sane suffered a serious injury in the first competitive game of the season, that is what froze him out. When he came back the season was disrupted by Covid and probably his move to Bayern almost confirmed. Even then he wasn't frozen out, he played with the Eds then came back to the Senior squad, did you expect him to go straight into the first 11 for a full game after such a long layoff. You have made a very serious accusation regarding the integrity of our manager and now you spread falsehoods about Sane. Look in the mirror to see where the nonsense is coming from.

Pep managed to spend good money between 2018 and now and still reduce the quality of a very good team

No manager worth his salt, chasing a game will do a Zinchenko-Walker sub whilst Torres was waiting in the wings with few minutes to play

These days we struggle badly even in games that we win. There was an assurance we once had as City fans that we would win most epl games even in Mancini's days and in Pellers' days

When will Pep be held accountable?
Pep Guardiola on bringing on Oleksandr Zinchenko: "It was to have a left-footed [player on] left, and right-footed on right. That was the reason why - on the left we go inside and the right we have problems to lose balls and needed to play more on the left." [via

"There was an assurance we once had as City fans that we would win most epl games even in Mancini's days and in Pellers' days". What "WE" are you speaking on behalf of, have you not read posts on this site vehemently criticising some Utd and Scouse fans for this same sense of "entitlement", imo one of the most remarked on reasons as to why they are derided. How long have you supported this club or football, if you have ever heard of a win being assured you should report it immediately to the PL as it indicates possible criminal betting activity.
