Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

The quote from Pep tells me of a bit of irritation at the whining from fans for the "good old days" of Sane blowing down the wing. Pretty clear Pep thinks people are remembering that through rose-tinted glasses. If he wanted that approach again, he'd be instructing the team to play that way. Grealish and Foden both have plenty of pace if instructed to play differently, but they're clearly both being instructed to focus on ball retention and control. Unfortunately lack of an overlapping LB (which the club failed to buy last summer) therefore makes their job very difficult.
or he is simply facing the reality of not having the pace of sane and sterling available to him.

He can understand it far better than any of us and if you can't understand that simple fact then your opinions will be skewed. I don't always agree with him but I do understand the chances are exteremely high over 99% he's right and I'm wrong, and he'd be an idiot if he listened to my opinion. Simple fact is he's the best around and if any of us knew better we wouldn't be sat wasting our time on a football forum.
nah not true disagree. many coaches in grassroot or even some pundits can understand tactics as good as or even better than top most coaches. the difference is managing or coaching a team is not only about tactics. in that sense pep is the best manager/coach in the business. but to say he understands tactics better than anyone at all times is not true. many people on the outside of football can analyze the game better than pep I bet.

You're not sincerely trying to suggest you have a better mind for the tactical side of the game than Pep Guardiola, are you?

Because that would be beyond delusion.

What he asked of Rodri last night is up there with his decisions in the CL final for me.

Rodri is a class footballer, but thanks to the poor recruiting of his cover, he’s invaluable and Pep then decides to stretch him to his limits and ask more of him. The first half was such a bizarre tactical approach. Could and should have cost us last night.

Everything about that first half was wrong. Hopefully we never see it again.

hmmmmm.....

he has revolutionised tactics as much as any coach before him.

Grealish has plenty of pace, he's just not allowed to use it with the way Pep wants him to play. Pep has moved to wanting his wingers to focus on control above all else.
Grealish has no pace mate. . No one in this team does (except haaland and Alvarez maybe) that's why "good old memories"..

The fact it didn't cost us. Shows how poor Chelsea are

No, otherwise they wouldn't be outside the game

oh boy, people saying pep isnt all that when it comes to understanding tactics...now ive heard everything.

You can fairly say that his gameplans and abrupt formation changes sometimes dont work but i bet if you hear his thought process and what he set his team out to do you'd probably say "what a genius this guy is" nine times out of ten. Its just that sometimes practice doesnt translate to the matches but if you think you can trot your cute 4-3-3 unchanged for 2 or 3 years and dont get figured out you are wrong. Nevermind 7 years
