He needs to have a long, hard look at himself and think about what it is he is trying to achieve. This side is fucking miles away from the 17/18 and 18/19 side.
We have gone from a side that was collectively brilliant, to a side that relies on individual moments of quality. We have replaced world-class/potentially world-class players with players not fit to lace their boots.
I am borderline bored watching us. We play football without any purpose. I have watched us go from arguably the most exciting wide two in world football in 17/18, to our wingers/wide forwards spending more time facing our own goal than the oppositions. It’s fucking criminal. Having watched Pep sides over the years, I cannot believe that a) he has overseen this and b) he is happy with the result. He clearly wanted more control of games after painful defeats in big CL games but in trying to achieve this, he has lost sight of everything that made us the best English side I have ever seen. I don’t recognise this team at all. We might still win the league and/or CL and we will celebrate like any other season, but nobody will convince me that as it stands we as a side are not going backwards. Maybe it was inevitable given the highs of 17/18 and 18/19 but this is becoming a painful watch.
Every time Pep talked about signing a new deal, he talked about watching the level and attitude of the players. Did they still want it? Did they still want to play for him? Watching us this season, I am almost amazed he signed a new deal. I wonder how low we would have had to have dropped, for him to say “that’s it”, because what I am watching this season is a side that is the worst Pep side I have ever seen, at City or anywhere else.
