Can't get my head around that. Clearly wasnt working from the start yet nothing changed. Slow sideways shite then spamming crosses and hoping. Bernardo needs to be in the middle
Bernardo was in the middle for the last 20 min and we were still poor.

I don't know if it's the WC or the energy level fluctuation during a season, but today we were just poor. I think people are overreacting and if we have to criticize somethkng it would be the 10 onfield players and Pep for not using the bench equally. Ofc this place has zero logic and all is Pep's fault today apparently

His game management is bad quite often, usually gets brushed under the rug by a late winner here and there.

Also how inform players get dropped for no reason. Foden after 4 goals and an assist in 2 games, dropped. Grealish everytime he plays well and you think he could start building something, bench. Alvarez scoring everytime he starts, 85th min sub.
Gomez potential to take up the width and allow forward players to shine, Cancelo automatic choice despite being utterly terrible recently.
Same with all cbs, we have too many. Ake is the only one that is actually a decent fullback yet it's Stones and Akanji keep being the ones put out wide and they are shite there, but he keeps doing it. I assume he does it at the cost of younger fullbacks simply to keep our senior cbs happy.

Needs to improve in areas this season, we've been ok as we have had Haaland bailing us out quite often, cant happen every game as seen today.
Very well said. We have ran Cancelo to ground but Wilson Esbrand hasn't seen minutes. He potentially cannot be worse than Cancelo at present. Haaland has covered our cracks this season and has taken all the limelight but other wise this has been weakest we have looked in long time. Also earlier we knew a long winning run was around the corner but this season it doesn't look like it will come. Break has come at right time. Pep has 6 weeks to rethink bcoz his planning on next weeks will define our rest of season. Once club football returns, time won't be there to rethink then as games will come thick and fast. Also young fullbacks will have to br trusted over senior Cbs

The wingers being so wide just does not work that welk with this current group.

Foden being wide to let Cancelo inside who is in bad form for a while is not working.

I hope Pep sees the fast wingers in the academy we have for a bit more over the world cup time and tries to let them take the width. And let Cancelo do that on the right side more with Mahrez or Palmer cutting in (or Mebude out wide).

Currently a waste to have Foden, Bernie or even Kev so wide.

Starting lineup wasn't what I wanted but it was fine, more than good enough to win, the players simply didn't look up for it. I commented at the match as he made the sub he's asking for us to lose this, mental decision to chase the game so hard when we wasn't losing, gundogan for alvarez was the obvious and still attacking sub, he got that wrong.

Don't blame him for not making more subs though, who's coming on and changing that? Grealish with less goal involvements than John Stones isn't coming on and doing anything to change the game. mahrez, perhaps but hasn't exactly got the form behind him to suggest he would have done something. We needed pace on the wings to help change it from the bench, we don't have any. Today is firmly on the players not Pep.

Fucking hell some of the posts on this thread, what a load of bollocks. The players didn’t perform pure and simple.

only last week peps tactical tweaks won us a game with 10 men. The players clearly weren’t at it today and It’s hardly surprising given the World Cup is a career high for most players

Awful tactics & selection yet again, why does he continue to select players in roles they can't play? Why does he continue to ask certain players for things they aren't capable of doing?

He's a great manager but these are the reasons we won't win the champions league with Pep.

This. This team does not need 5 CBs and none of them (Stones, Akanji, Ake) are good enough at FB.

Go back a while and we had Stones and Dias regularly at CB and noises were Laporte was unhappy. Pep rotated to make sure Laporte got games and stayed. IMO this was worth it because we had 3 top-class CBs and losing Laporte would have been a mistake. It is not the same for Ake and potentially Akanji.

Stones can’t get a game in his best position so that Pep can accommodate this nonsense. The reality should be that if Ake and Akanji don’t like being 4th and 5th choice CBs and the lack of game time that brings…go elsewhere. It sounds harsh but Ake is 100% not world-class level and Akanji has plenty to do to show he should be benching Dias and having Stones being punted out wide. The team is suffering.

Love the caveats about the possible changes.

Indeed why have a manager

Not the players fault they lack pace!

That would go down to recruitment which has changed from buying fast wingers to possession holding players who cut inside. Strangling the life out of the creative side of this team. When they next sit down and discuss transfers, someone needs to have the balls to say we need to buy genuine wingers who will overlap and get to the byline or be able to break at speed and supply Haaland. The possession obsession has tipped into absurd levels now.

He’s had better days…

That said just caught up on thread after today and it’s fair to say the hyperbole is strong in some.
Careful what you wish for. Well unless you’re the crank who thinks mourinho would have been better for us. I’d just mind leaving the bedroom if you’re him because it sounds like he’s a bit of a danger to himself and shouldn’t be out in public.

How sad was Pep‘s yelling to tired players : 10 minutes, 10 minutes.

Hope he rest his head until restart.

Might be tired and genuinely wondering whether to continue his stint at City. Today didn't help.

You are allowed to be critical of the manager if he makes mistakes, it doesn't mean you want him out.

I thought it was a mistake not to make changes, but we can't be sure that Grealish or Mahrez or Alvarez would have done better than the replaced players. The opposition always have a chance to win even if it's a league one team. That's football.

We were poor, shit happens. We lost from Palace in 18/19 and 21/22. We lost 3 games in December 2018, a lot of people thought Pep was finished...Then we won 54 from 57 possible points. Fans pretend to know the mistakes Pep makes, but it's mostly guesses.

Mostly just people needing an outlet to vent after a defeat. Many go OTT unfortunately.

Pep can be perplexing at times, he passionately spoke about need of 5 substitutions and whenever things aren't working out or we're in need of freshening things up, he barely uses subs, sometimes i think if title wasn't on the line he wouldn't have used substitutions against Villa, he was kinda forced into it

What does it say then if he didnt think them two could change the game? If Foden was on the bench he would of brought him on in that situation. I actually think Grealish could of changed things as he can be direct and attract two players onto him.

Bringing on Alvarez late on was bizarre though.
