One of the things Pep doesn't get enough credit for is the fact he's just never had a down season.

Look at Klopp now, or Ancelotti at Bayern or failing to win the league at PSG, Mourinho's 3rd season syndrome.

Pep just doesn't do it. Worst ever season is 4th.

The only other manager to have ever had that consistent, unrelenting excellence is Ferguson.

Yeah, in our two notably bad seasons under Pep, we still amassed 78 and 81 points (winning the League Cup in the second of those).

Btw, when did he finish 4th? I thought his worst finish was 3rd.

You're right I always think we finished 4th in 16/17 but it was 3rd

Tbh, I think that error weirdly backs up your point.

That season is commonly looked at as a weak season by us. At the time, even though we showed promise at different points, it still didn't feel good. At least not compared to what we all imagined would happen (that obviously later did happen).

It was a bad season, but it was still 3rd with 78 points. Which just shows how high the Pep bar is.

Look at this season. It feels very underpar, and we look inconsistent. Yet, we're on track for 82 points. That's not great, but many teams would dream of a total like that.

One great acheivment that always seems to go unnoticed to me is the only member of the squad left from before Pep is KDB. So we have completely refreshed the squad once with hardly a miss step and still winning trophies. We are probably about to have another refresh while still finishing top 4 and at least challenging for trophies.
Very few managers can do that as Klopp is finding out and numerous chelsea managers have found over the years.
