Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

Isn’t it funny how the general consensus is that Pep didn’t overthink the Bayern game. He literally played a structure that was exclusive/unique to the Bayern game so far this season, with Stones playing as a hybrid CB/DM instead of as an inverted full back. But because we won, instead of anyone acknowledging that the very reason Pep is the best manager of all time is because he overthinks EVERY game and that that overthinking works almost every time, they just assume Pep reverted to something tried and tested, something normal. Even though he didn’t. Pep is the best BECAUSE he never stops thinking about the game but it’s used against him as if it’s a weakness somehow.
I agree with most of that Trev but he over 'thinked' against Chelsea in CL final. Although that gme wasn't the only big game he's made a bad pre game decision that brain fart in Porto was by far the most important game to lose caused by his overthinking. It looks like that he's learned from his past mistakes and he'll (hopefully) use formations and tactics that work, especially in the biggest games.

I will go to my deathbed arguing that Pep didn’t overthink the champions league final, he identified a major issue but his solution didn’t work. He went with Sterling to try and ensure their wingbacks stayed deeper back 3 was covered. That was because in both previous meetings their wingbacks caused us huge problems. Effectively getting 4 v 4 or some cases 5 v 4. Unfortunately Chelsea were still able to get though our press so the wingbacks ended up 1 v 1 on both flanks with 3 runners and Mount coming forward. Hence we were constantly stretched. Had Werner learned how to shoot we would have been in trouble long before half time.

Everyone talks about dropping Rodri costing us but none of our problems were through the middle, all of it came out wide.

You're in the minority pal. Playing an out of sorts Sterling cost us, but Pep's biggest blunder wasn't not playing Rodri, it was not playing Fernandinho.

When Chelsea read our team sheet it gave them hope and belief. When i read our team sheet it left me feeling dread, as did most blues I've spoken to.

A kindred spirit. If I hear one more time ‘Pep cost us the final’ I will fall on my plastic samurai sword.

You mean like 70% of the time the team sheet is announced.
pep is a comfort blanket for those that can’t accept that Chelsea played better than us in the final and individual performances from our lot were sub standard.

Not often i disagree with you but Pep fucked up mate. It's no wonder Chelsea played better than us with the side and tactics he chose.
