Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

I think we’re boring to watch at the moment, but I also thought we were boring in the first half of the 2020-21 season. After the very poor Summer we had with the Arsenal FA Cup and Lyon CL games and finishing that 2019-20 season 18 points behind Liverpool.

We look like we did in that period. Really uninventive, slow, boring, 13 goals in our last 9 games… after 33 in our opening 9 games this season.

We can look dreadful - as we did a lot in Pep’s first season too - but out of nowhere we can go on a run.

A run of wins now looks more likely than it ever did in 2020-21 when we were about 8th yet went on to win 18 of 19 games.
Agree with your first three paragraphs but not the last. I just can't see us going on a run as we have done previously. We just seem to disjointed.

A poor result vs Spurs and the knives will be out. Just as after the WBA game in December, which came after an average game at Old Trafford. After that game vs WBA we won 21 games in a row. Nobody thought at the time that was possible.

What sort of attitude is that..weve not even reached the top yet.. You don't see real Madrid falling back into the pack. We have everything set up to dominate football and our attitudes should be to want to do so
It's just an attitude that's different to yours.

Dunno how long you've been around these parts but you might remember a user called Gaudinho's Stolen Car. Maybe you don't. He died in 2012 a few weeks after Aguero's goal against QPR and a bunch of us went to his funeral. In a cab on the way to the wake, we all got to chatting about City being Premier League champions. We all unanimously agreed that after winning the FA Cup and the Premier League, we wouldn't mind City not winning anything ever again after that. As far as I'm concerned, I've seen the best - better than I ever expected to see - and I cherish those memories. I still want City to win and obviously I'm gutted about today, dumbfounded in all honesty, but I'd rather treasure what we've achieved instead of stressing about the future. We've won more in the last decade than I ever expected us to in my whole lifetime. Sorry if that's not "Real Madrid" enough for you.

This is how I see it. Top 4 and a good cup run is hardly the end of the world.
I agree completely. My concern is that imo we've got the weakest squad we've had for years. No leaders on the pitch.

Pep's going in the near future. He has to leave us with at least the basis of a strong squad to go forward.

It’s been a hell of a ride but all good things come to an end. As it stands, most of our best players are either getting old, or wanting to leave. As such, there's a danger of us 'dropping off a cliff' when he leaves.

Someone suggested earlier in the thread that the club hasn't even started looking for his successor yet. I don't believe that for one minute. Surely they're not daft enough to move forward without a succession plan knowing that Pep is leaving soon? Furthermore, bearing in mind Pep's connections with Bergiristain and Soriano, is there any guarantee that they're going to stick around when their cash cow walks out of the door?

It's an uncertain future. Big clubs are investing in anticipation of a Super League and some being offered to billionaires with an eye on that big prize.

If we don't play our cards well, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we find we're fighting for a PL top 6 place in five years time.

I think that's our strongest squad. The problem is that some players are a bit tired or a bit off form right now, partly because last season was very difficult (look at Liverpool and West Ham who went far in Europe as well), partly due to the WC where we had 16 players.

We'll improve over the next months.

Thank you for this wonderful post.

I‘m like you in The respect that I’m eternally grateful for what we have witnessed and experienced these last few years. That doesn’t mean today is easy to take - it isnt - and I’m a little concerned about the rest of this season petering out after what we all unanimously believed to be our best summer transfer window for years.

I really wish we would set up to play to Haaland’s strengths. Any other team/manager would but our Pep seems to be almost wanting to prove a point about how innovative he is instead of accepting the gift of the worlds greatest current striker And setting up accordingly.

Onwards and upwards

Pep has got the first big crisis of his career at city and in the next few weeks We will see how he copes . Atm we are failing to play to haalands strengths and it needs to change or else we have a very unhappy best striker in the world on our hands . Not happy getting beat by United but expected it tbh so not shocked but I’m shocked at sone of the levels our players are performing also Bernie needs to put up of fuck off as he is making the club look like cunts because he knows what he is gonna do . Cancelo is already gone with his performances atm . We need Dias and stones back to shore our shit defence up .

This team isn’t winning 21 games in a row that’s for sure. I’d be happy with the next 2 in a row at the moment.

The thing is, nobody knows what's going to happen. Nobody thought the Centurions would lose from Wigan of all teams, and nobody thought we were going to win 21 games in a row after lingering in midtable in December 2020.

I think this team will win things this season, and some of the performances on the way to the trophies will be incredible.

Many are victims of the recency bias: several poor games and we are not good enough any more. Naive. The potential of this team is huge, and it is likely to get realised over the next months, given who is the manager.
