Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

Can't help but feel the players are slowly losing faith in Pep which is a worrying sign. Vibes are well off, I think the players like us fans can see Pep is losing the plot with some of these formations and this awful style of play where we refuse to move the ball forward to Haaland. Erling will be the next one to lose it and you couldn't fault the man if he did. I can't believe how boring we have become - it says something when the dirty Rags play better football.

Pep whilst an absolutely world class manager - still #1 for me; he is no bigger than the club. He has to buck up his ideas. Hopefully in the summer, we can freshen the squad up and go again. Its like Pep has had a breakdown since losing to Madrid or something. He has lost his identity. Hopefully we can get the old Pep back.

The only concern I have is that we are incapable of passing the ball into Haaland. We have good players and a world class manager. The season is done imo. We will hang on for a while but that zip/drive is not on show this season. When Kev was passing the ball to Haaland it all seemed so easy. Now Kev is off form and the rest are pants. On the face of it poor recruitment for what ever reason is a major factor. Last season our squad was not good enough and we just about got the job done. This season the old reliable players like Kev have gone messing. Only 1 player has stepped up with goals and that is Haaland.

Solution: buy better players and stop worrying about the letter writing cunts. Hard balancing act. One we must put right in the summer.

Pep can only do so much. He cant create with the wrong tools. Clear out needed. Far too many passengers not weighing in with goals or assists. The club needs to give him better players and not have him creating miracles each season.

Oh, stop buying English players. Productivity and quality has fallen as a result of our recruitment. We have dropped the ball big time in this regard. Can’t creative with out a bit of magic. Foden was our only hope and he is having a funny season.
Not one player would have been signed without Pep agreeing, not one.
We probably havent got in some of the players he would have liked though.
I would like to think we will flex our financial muscles this summer and go all out for the players Pep wants and we need, we need a big clearout but im not so sure we will.

Pep and Klopp are failing this season due to pushing the players beyond their limits for several seasons now and then blaming them for not performing according to the expectations. The players are losing faith and the teams are losing ground.

Pep's plan to shake things up after the WC seems to be unsuccessful and is making the team worse. Even the best managers make big mistakes. Maybe we can save the season if Pep manages to come up with a better plan.

Think Pep allowed silly criticisms to get to him. Is it a coincidence he prefers to play with our least expensive players in defence, as if he wants to prove a point? Akanji, Rico and Ake cost under 60m together. The 60m players are on the bench or at Bayern now. Guess Pep would say he wants hungry and happy players. And he would be right in principle. But his treatment of the players who started the most games last season and were key cogs in our build up play has been unproductive.

For the first time he needs to be questioned.

Team selection: Suck it up and put the best players on the pitch.

Personal Favourites: Akanji. Nowhere near good enough I dont care if he smiles at you every morning. Every fan from any club would have raised eyebrows when seeing Dias and Laporte on the bench.

Mystery exclusions: De Bruyne & Foden. No words really.

Lack of in game changes & Stubbornness : Did we ever look like scoring today ?
This isn’t the first time he’s needed to be questioned.

He was rightly questioned a lot in his first season and in the 2019-20 season and far more than now in the first half of the 2020-21 season where we were a fucking shambles (we were on course for a 57 point season as late as December that season!).

We have been much better this season than the start of the 2020-21 season. Okay, we went on a run of 18 wins in 19 games to end up winning the league that season and we definehely won’t be doing that this season. But we might actually finish with around the same amount of points this season as we did in winning the league that season.

We finished 19 points behind the title winners in 2019-20 on 81 points.
We won the league with 86 points the following season (not really that much of an improvement on the season before).
And we’re on course for an 82 point season this season.

They are quite good for ‘drop-off’ seasons. One of them we even ended up with the title.

All of those seasons were strange seasons n’all. 2019-20 was interrupted by a three month break (granted, by then we were already out of the title race), 2020-21 saw no fans in attendance and this season has seen a stupid World Cup interrupt the season.

We will not win the league every season. We won’t even play well every season. But if we can achieve 80+ points in ‘drop-off’ seasons, there’s not that much to complain about. Would it be better that we challenge right to the end and miss out on the title on the final day in our ‘drop-off’ seasons? I don’t know, the end result is the same either way - we end up without the title, so what’s the difference?

The concern I have is that I don’t see where this squad is going. I don’t think players we’re recruiting suit our style of play or suit playing with each other or are good enough. But we’ll have to see how we recruit this Summer to see if there’s a longer term plan for this.

Not sure what the price of a transfer has to do with this situation.

Dias is now fit, why is he not getting minutes, because he cost 60m? Come on, this is a lot deeper.

Vibes have been well off before.

Pep’s been with us for seven seasons and in four of those seasons we’ve been miles behind our three better seasons with vibes seemingly well off. Even though in one of those seasons we ended up winning the league!

2016-17: 3rd, 78 points; CL Ro16
2017-18: 1st, 100 points; CL ¼; EFL Cup w; Community Shield w
2018-19: 1st, 98 points; CL ¼; FA Cup w; EFL Cup w; Community Shield w
2019-20: 2nd, 81 points; CL ¼; EFL Cup w
2020-21: 1st, 86 points; CL final; EFL Cup w
2021-22: 1st, 93 points; CL ½

2022-23: currently 2nd, on course for an 82 point season, still in the CL and FA Cup. This season might not be anywhere near our worst under Pep.

Only if that’s what kind of mind your mind is. I don’t think there’s anything more deep than Dias not being fit enough to start yet and that 15 minute cameo the other week set him back a bit as he went off feeling his injury.
