Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Watched Liverpool-Arsenal today and the quality difference is off the scale.

Both teams can defend transitions and have quality to create chances. We're nowhere near. The idea that in 5/6 weeks we'll be there is a fantasy. We're an absolute mile behind and it's evidenced both on the pitch and tactically. By the time we sort ourselves out we'll be 15 points behind.

Fergie was also written off after he went three years without winning the PL.
He followed that with three consecutive PL titles.
PL fans are so fickle. They think we just have to turn up and win.
Are you watching what’s happening on the pitch at the moment? It’s absolutely diabolical. With respect who cares what happened to Ferguson?

The context is completely different, pep has less than two years on his contract and likely won’t sign another, he doesn’t have the time for this to continue. If he had the clubs best interests at heart he’d be considering walking.

I don’t remember a drop off like this at any point since 2008, this is full scale regression undoing years of hard work to get us into a dominant position. It’s certainly not being fickle, it’s wanting the best for the club. Why would anyone be content with what’s we’re seeing now? You’re talking garbage.

We all know we're closer to the end of the partnership than we are the beginning. We do need to be looking forwards to life without Pep now regardless - it does feel a little bit like we're in limbo at the moment. god knows who the hell will replace him, but it's becoming more of a pressing concern now

We won’t be sorting ourselves out this season.

Guardiola’s certainly not infallible, but I don’t think our current problems are solely down to the manager. Recruitment hasn’t been great for a while, so I’m far from convinced that someone else could come in and instantly improve things. The squad lacks real quality in key areas. Not even sure who a realistic candidate would be at this stage anyway. Regardless, we’re not going to get rid of the greatest manager of all time after three games of a season, thankfully. I trust him to work it out, as he always does. And if not, I guess him and the club will assess things at the end of the season.

Agreed, however Pep is the first to admit in loads of conferences he’s done over the years that it’s a results business, and on the back of finishing potless last season, if it doesn’t improve over next month or so I’ll be thinking end of the season is a bit optimistic even for the board.

I trust he will get it right as well, but I’m deeply concerned at present, like plenty of others are, and with the games on the horizon including CL games I’m not gonna get too relaxed yet mate.

This season is starting to feel like the last season of Pellegrini where there were signs of decline and erraticism the year prior to him getting the boot but we had to stick with him because Pep was coming in 2016.

We got lucky in Pellegrini's last season because we only just finished in the top 4 via goal difference over United in a year where the two teams going for the title were Leicester and Spurs despite us having by far the best squad in the Premier League that year.

It sadly feels like the end of the road under Pep. Everything just feels stale even with the new signings.

I would like to see Pep see the season out, we owe him that in my opinion. However if it carries on I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually walked. My concern is, unless an Enrique is available, I don't see the point in Pep going.

Yeah, that’s fair enough. We’re miles off it at the moment, but it’d be daft to write him off at this stage (especially with virtually no pre-season behind us).

I think perhaps we overstated pep’s importance in our pomp and now we are being overly harsh on pep.

The fact of the matter is the players are nowhere near the level that we had a few seasons ago. We had the best team in the league with players in the bench who would start for 99% of other sides in the league. We now have very average players across the side.

No manager would get much more out of this side imo.

Just look at this side from a few years back!

Only rodri gets in that team

Agreed mate, at least we can take our fingers off the panic button for a couple of week now

I can only presume the training sessions lasted 63 min.

Listen I've been a pep fanboy since day one, us getting him was a masterstroke, look what he has delivered.
But you can't keep him on for sentimental purposes. Personally he should have walked after we got 4 in a row with his legacy intact.
He will end up like wenger did at bridesmaids FC and end up being hated.

The team aren't responding to him. There are no excuses for injuries or fatigue. Yes it is only 3 games in but it is shades of last season already. I think he has lost that mojo and that aura.

A change is going to come eventually, do it now and reset whilst it's still early doors.

Yes I sound entitled and yes I sound spoilt but far from it. You can feel the negativity and it is flat.

Change the players or change the manager.

We're not changing the manager.

The problem is we're not changing the players either or not enough of them anyways!

The team needs surgery on everything besides Erling, Rodri and Trafford.

I was already including them. Only further thought I’d include Bernardo
Presumably Ederson also gets in then, and also Gvardiol too. Obviously that team is stronger than what we have now, but the team now is a fair bit younger so wouldn’t be writing these players off just yet.

The league season is effectively over after 3 games mate, can you say with conviction we’ll close the gap to 1st or get close? As a bare minimum we should be challenging to win the league otherwise what was pep’s reasoning for signing a new deal?

Performances on the pitch are just getting worse and worse. I’m seeing excuses like ‘lack of pre season’ now - well that’s no one else’s fault but our own and pep could have brought them in sooner.

I want to see the best for the club, our future can’t be decided off the back of what was won with a different set of players. The landscape has changed and pep is refusing to change and this season will turn out worse than last if there isn’t one.

Interesting to hear him say about seeing the real squad after the international break

Perhaps there are a few bad faces behind the scenes causing issues in the squad ?
