Villa's team, tactics and formation have pretty much been the same since the day Emery walked in. You know what you're going to get and there aren't going to be any surprises. I don't want to call it naivety, but you don't need to tinker like he did today.

Biggest annoyance today for me was breaking up the Dias/ Gvardiol partnership and dropping O'reilly from fullback just to accommodate Stones so he can play DM in possession.

Why break up an established back 4 that has kept so many clean sheets in recent weeks.

Defence is an absolute no no for rotation

Probably because we’ve had an exceptionally fortunate run of games against middling teams that don’t provide a proper test of where we are as a team.

We haven’t beaten a top side all season and we’re in November next week.

if there is no defensive midfielder, it just doesn’t work, and no shuffling of the pack is going to make it otherwise. It’s still bizarre that we think another permutation will somehow work. If the academy has no alternative, go into the window and find one.
