None of our other central midfielders - Kovacic, Reijnders or Gonzalez - are good enough to play regularly for an elite side. If one of these stays this summer, it’s probably because the other two have left and we need to hang onto them.

O’Reilly could be moved into midfield more permanently, but it’s debatable whether he’s as effective there. Even if he were, that still leaves us needing at two top class midfielders if we’ve got any intentions of winning the league next year.

If the new manager has us play at a higher tempo, with the ball going forward faster, then the need diminishes for midfielders who can slowly recycle possession. I suspect that if that is the case, then Reijnders, Gonzalez, Anderson (?), and an other, supported by Nunes/O’Reilly/Ait-Nouri, might look much more comfortable than Rodri, Kovacic, and Lewis.

Exactly this - the period when Pep settled on the same starting lineup the one that had us with just the single playmaker was when we played some very attractive football and got us back to make the title race a thing. Look at how far ahead the top two are to see that.

The only blot on this year for me was our rotation for the CL and we didn't really run Real Madrid that close. Also the way Pep changed us back into a less attacking unit for the game last night. You could argue that by bringing in his older payers in midfield to make us more solid didn't work. However, when we won all those games around Feb we saw a glimpse of what is to come because compared to last season we were fun to watch. He got most of it right as always and has overseen the major part of the rebuild.

We are a young team and with one of two additions the future is very bright. Of course we shall see who leaves and there has to be some questions about the likes of Rico, Phil, Savinho and Tijjani but we have to trust that next year whomever is in charge will build a team to get the very best out of our two best attacking threats - Haaland and Cherki.

In other words Pep has done good to get us so close with a newish squad.

I would agree in relation to Reijnders, who would certainly benefit from a higher tempo, and I think he’s certainly better than he’s shown so far. Although that’s not much of a statement given some of his performances to date.

Gonzalez, however, would still in my opinion struggle with a higher tempo, and I think he’ll move on in the summer.

The next manager probably won’t need a clone of Bernardo, but I’d be very surprised if we don’t sign at least two midfielders in the summer.

The midfield hasn’t been right for a couple of seasons now and that’s clearly the priority for the next bloke.

For people to be happy to trade two domestic trophies for the either of the two most important ones isn't why our owner has ploughed billions into the club.
I have this feeling that he will end up in charge of the football side of CFG.

Wouldn’t disagree with that, though in relation to Gonzalez, I would at least want to see him given a try. Even if he were to sign two new midfielders, Anderson and A.N. Other, they cannot play every game, and we will only succeed if players in the middle are regularly rotated.

Couldn’t be arsed to barely give the away fans who’ve supported him for a decade a wave. He can fuck right off himself. Sung all night for him and that’s what he gives back.

Success is completely irrelevant. Didn’t change my life, like it didn’t when watching Stuart Pearce 20yrs ago and we won fuck all.

It’s called having some respect. Last ever away game or not, it was the last one of the season regardless and he didn’t look interested except to congratulate Bournemouth players as he practically jogged round the pitch to congratulate them. Did you go to the game?

Pissed off and angry about the result was he? Well he’s got himself to blame for that one with the tactics and team he put out there.

If all the success is irrelevant and didn't change your life then not sure how a lack of a wave has. Yes I Was there you fucking weirdo .
 
The GOAT, but I think you see the importance of De Bruyne to city's golden age with the way the last couple of years have gone. Not quite replaced his creativity and match-winning qualities in the aggregate yet.
 
I dont think Pep has been backed properly in the transfer market since the treble season . None of the signings we have made were good enough to keep us at that level despite his managerial genius.

Well I felt like there was no urgency almost all game, that's the most disappointing thing for me, not the fact that we drew against Bournemouth because they're a good side.
