Pep Guardiola: The Evolution - book by Martí Perarnau.

It is so difficult to absorb these philosophies that are talked about, with his previous experiences, maybe we are totally different here in this country compared to the good old let us turn up and beat who today, the luxury he had at Barca and Bayern,it is never gonna be that easy here, hence why he says you can't win every game. We know that.

Put it this way wait till January when we are drawn away at somewhere like Hartlepool or Newport where it's fucking freezing, let's see how his ideas fare on a day like that, when it is about getting a win, that will be the biggest culture shock he has ever faced in football,a proper deeper level of understanding
But in the meantime - would it hurt to get the "Pep Confidential" book - read it, and gain a better insight into our manager.

You'd be much better able to point out any weaknesses in Pep's philosophy having read the book.

On the other hand - you might gain a better appreciation for Pep's tactics, grudgingly acceding to his views.

Let me ask you this,I dunno how old you are,and I'm also under the impression that you are not American,I may be wrong, but how many managers have you seen come and go at City in your life,if you are an American I'll let you pass the question

It's -1C° in Munich right now.

He's been through culture shocks,
played teams who park the bus, teams who press high up, teams who sit back and wait for the counter, played in the blazing sun, played in the freezing cold, against small technical teams and teams with huge physical brutes in every position.

Don't act like he's been untested just because you didn't see the games.

*youcouldntpostanythingwithoutcomingacrossasacock*

I'm more interested in how he fares in City matches,no matter who they are against

From the USA - sorry.

I've been a fan of City since Mancini just when he took over.

I've been a football (in the states we call it "Soccer") player for much much longer. As a kid, I got into football at age 6 - I was put into goal for some reason.

Later, I moved to fullback - our instruction at that time was to lump it forward - and I could kick it really far.

Later, I played holding mid. Was pretty good at that role - broke up plays often. And took every single penalty for our side - never missed, except once in my last game.

At college I went to the University of California at Riverside at first - I impressed the coach enough that I'd have started at fullback. Unfortunately I transferred to UCLA where I had no chance of starting.

Actually I didn't follow world football much.

I was into American football - an Oakland Raider's fan - still sort of am. But we had the worst owner in all of sports - Al Davis just killed us. Year after year after year we sucked. I just sort of gave up watching the sport after about 25 years of his bullshit.

From my previous post you know I really loved soccer (I'll call it football from now on).

And finally, in 2008 I decided to watch all the World Cup games. It was fascinating. I wanted more.

Football in the USA totally sucked - no way I'd watch that - so I wanted to find a really good, up-and-coming side I could root for. After a bit of research - I settled on Manchester City. And I've been with them since - and will be till I die.

It is very nice to read stuff like this,so when we are on TV over here, say on Sky or BT with a stupid kick off time, like 12,30 luchtime, what time is it where you are and do you get to see us live on the tv all the games ?

In the states various networks compete for all the games. Currently it's NBC - fortunately their announcers are really good for the most part and sometimes they just take the English commentary which is generally excellent. Game times depend - sometimes it's 4:00AM ranging to 8:00AM or maybe later. But I have a TIVO and just record all the broadcasts for later viewing in case I"m not awake.

Fantastic, well as many say on here, enjoy the ride,I've been on it since 1981 and it has been the biggest roller coaster that has ever been produced, even by American standards

I'm reading it.

Favourite quote is from Xabi Alonso:
"Pep and his team basically put me through a fast track masters degree in football. The workload was incredibly tough....He's so pedantic about everything that he picks up on every tiny detail, when you get it right as well as when you get it wrong. It's not just about tactics either. It's much more to do with his whole philosophy. Under Pep all of us at Bayern had to develop the ability to grasp new concepts and apply them immediately".

This journalist again seems to have pretty much open access for both the books covering his three years at Bayern. I wonder if he's followed Pep to City; in which case the next ones going to be a good read!

Book covers his first few weeks at City too, so it will be an interesting read.

Thanks! I'm having a blast supporting City - loving every minute of it!

Bloody turncoat fair weather fan.

LOL good craic this,I know I'm a bastard on here at times, but don't intend to offend,it's just my personna, not a miserable bastard, far from it,but I get awfully frustrated especially were City are concerned, too easily

None taken buddy, I genuinely don't even mean to be this sarcastic. Here's to hoping for a less frustrating game vs Palace!

:-)

I still like the Raiders - it's been years since I've even lived anywhere near Oakland, California though. Many, many, years - nonetheless my loyalty remains - if ever I watch American football - I'll be rooting for the Raiders.

But now... I just find international football much more compelling. American football is just too slow paced for me these days. 20 or thirty seconds of commentary - followed by a play - followed by 3 or 4 replays and repeat. And on every timeout/change of possession, there's a trillion commercials. Ugh!

World football is much more to my taste - continuous action for 45+ minutes - and it's a game that I actually have played in my lifetime - I never ever played competitive team American football.

People on here put up with 35 years of shite management.
