Pep Guardiola

Why Guardiola may choose Bayern Munich ahead of Chelsea or Man City. Or take another year off...

Pep Guardiola is seriously considering refusing the chance to manage Manchester City or Chelsea next season to take over as Bayern Munich coach. Courted by an array of Europe’s elite clubs, the manager who led Barcelona to two Champions League triumphs is attracted to Germany’s leading club as a safer platform to restart his career than anything available in the Premier League.

Guardiola admires the professional manner in which Bundesliga clubs operate and the balance of foreign and home-grown players in Bayern’s squad. The strength of their academy system is similar to that at Barcelona — a resource that was fundamental to his success at Camp Nou.

Bayern’s executive, built around a group of world-class former players, also appeals to Guardiola, who has encouraged the Germans’ interest. Their current coach, 67-year-old Jupp Heynckes, is out of contract this summer, and Guardiola’s financial demands are comfortably within the reach of a club that announced record revenues of €373.4million (£301m) last month, behind only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

Currently enjoying a year’s sabbatical with his family in New York, Guardiola has told his agent, Jose Maria Orobitg, that he will make a decision on his future in January. It remains possible the Catalan will extend his break into a second year.

Though Manchester City believe the appointments of Ferran Soriano as chief executive and Tixki Begiristain as director of football gives them an edge should the club dismiss Roberto Mancini at the end of the season, Guardiola’s choice will not simply come down to the familiarity of working with former Barcelona executives.

well if he makes his decision in January it certainly wont be to come to us as our mgmt isn't dense enough to sack mancini in the middle of the season like that loon down south

Not going to happen. Ask Van Gaal what its like being an outsider at that club. PSG, maybe, but there's no chance of him going to Bayern.

Rubbish.

Van Gaal was no more of an "outsider" than Hitzfeld, Magath, Trappatoni etc etc, all trainers are outsiders if they don't come from within the club.
He had to go because despite being a great trainer he was too stubborn to ever admit he was wrong, he was his own worst enemy, he just didn't fit in.
I have no idea whether or not Guardiola will go to Bayern but he has had his people in talks with them. The only club he definately won't go to is Chelsea, he doesn't need the hassle.

I believe he'll win everything with Bayern. Also he won't need to sign more than 4 or 5 new players. Here he would need to change 10, 12.

Wouldn't surprise me. I think the Bundesliga is on track to become the number one league in the world, and this would be just another step in that direction.

He'd do well in Bayern, I guess.

Won't be going to Bayern. Think about it. He's a very clever man, bit of an intellectual, loves art galleries and metropolitan culture, chose to take his year off in New York. For him it has to be a European capital city and one with plenty of Culture. It's London or Paris

You've never visited Munich then ? Munich is a beautiful city full of culture just 90 minutes from the beauty of the alps and bang in the centre of europe with the Italian coast just a few hours drive away and Switzerland, Austria and France a stones throw away, it is a much better place to live than the actual capital Berlin and has more palaces, museums, art galleries and what not than an "intellectual" could wish for. Guardiola has already declared himself more than satisfied with the Bavarian lifestyle, he just has to decide whether or not he wants to train the football team.

if the guy is more keen,on the arts ,rather than working in the worlds most important football city (yes manchester)why are we talking about him?

Because the media are absolutely obsessed that he is going to City, United or Chelsea. Absolutely obsessed with it.

And the strange thing is if he comes to us,the media will play the jury is out on him card,no real experience of the premier league, but if he goes to the rags it will be seen as a masterstroke, and the perfect replacement for baconface....

Same with Jose, depending on which side of town he might end up bringing the circus to.

Not really, I think some of our fans are worried that he may go to united. Personally, I wouldn't mind him ending up at united if that means that slur whiskey will no longer run that club. Pep Guardiola can never achieve what whiskeynose did/does at the rags.

I'd be a lot less worried if they got Guardiola than if they got Mourinho, that's for sure. I'm not quite sure how Pep would implement his footballing ideology into a club that has been high-speed kick-and-rush + wing play for 20-odd years though. Most of their players lack the technical qualities to play the "Barcelona way" unless Pep plans to do something different at his next club.

Jose proved his worth in Portugal,England,Italy & Spain while Pep only succeed in Barcelona and is unproven yet IMO.

They can have Mourinho. The portugeese gets bored after 2 seasons in a job then look for the "next challenge". Plus he needs a 300million worths of Squad to win things. Rags can't afford that...., not anymore anyway
