Pep Tactical Mancini Era Vibes

So yesterday Pep and MCFC showed the world the team is now capable of the classic Italian way of defending a lead ( almost lol) away from home against the juggernaut teams . A performance reminiscent of the MCFC Mancini era and a breath of fresh air if not kind to your blood pressure…….. we absolutely loved those days ! So we now have that tactical performance in the locker again something we have hugely missed a tactic we can use at the Emirates and Anfield and maybe possibly the Bernabeu. Rival managers now on the back foot Arteta was certainly caught out yesterday. Of course the addition of the Italian Donnarumma and his ability and presence has now allowed this to happen but also let’s not underestimate Khusanov, his performances this week have been fantastic. Pace and strength also Nico Oreilly performing way above his years and our center backs steady as a rock . Everything there reminiscent of a Mancini tactical master class of yesteryear……….. just fantastic to roll the years back and now know we have one of those performances back in the locker to use whenever Pep feels the need .

That backs to the wall away match at Atleti was one of our best ever European performances. It is great to know we can still do it.

It’s something we should have done maybe 2 or 3 times a season at the likes of the Emirates and Anfield. We have shown we can do it very well again yesterday and have it the locker it definitely puts the likes of Slot and Arteta on the back foot .

Don't think anyone thinks that's going to be our new style of play, but having it in the toolbox for specific scenarios is really important.

Probably even more so now we don't have Ederson to rely on for playing our way out of trouble.

Although I'd agree we don't want to fall into the trap of reverting to it too easily, still want to see bravery on the ball and composure at the back.

One wonders if the Pep to which you are referring is the wrong one?

From his own words, it doesn't seem like something he's willing to do more often. Seems like he was being pragmatic and trying to catch Arsenal off guard by putting them behind the 8 ball.

And with this style of football, it's a tightrope depending entirely on whether you don't concede. If Donnarumma doesn't come that far out or Ake doesn't play the attacker onside, we likely ride it out and get the win, and it looks like a moment of genius as a result.

I doubt we'll see this again unless necessary for whatever reason.

Possibly Anfield away but it depends on the situation.

I think Pep is becoming flexible enough to employ both tactics and mix it up depending on the opposition.

When everybody is fit, I think we have the team to dominate games against lesser opposition but it’s nice to see us trying a different approach in the 6 pointers and in general.
 
I thought it was a great option yesterday against a very good Arsenal side who probably at the moment would play us off the park in a possession based game. We were 2 good decisions away being 3 up - Doku and then Haaland on the counter just made the wrong decisions. Also we played a tough game 48hrs before.

To pull this sort of game off we still need better options off the bench. I think Savinho is weak. Was really impressed with them yesterday

Pep Guardiola is not running this show, Pep Lijnders is.

Opposition teams have got around the table with the likes of tha PL and pigmol. Press City and rough them up, this is why 5 subs have been allowed and referees have been lenient on the redshirts kicking fook out of City. The PL has killed pure football in the pursuit of financial gain for the cartel clubs.
I believe City have decided, if you can't beat them, join them. Hence the introduction of the dipper coaches. It was pretty obvious in the last few games that dipper tactics have been introduced to our game.

We went to the Emirates in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 and ground out a 0-0 result both times. Both were under Mancini but one was a bus-parking operation, which led to Arsenal fans giving me loads of shit on the way out about that, which was fun.
