Pep Tactical Mancini Era Vibes

Just hope for the Huddersfield match he doesn't adapt the tactics of Alan Ball...

:)
If Kevin Keegan was dead, he'd no doubt be spinning in his grave about the performance yesterday. I know he had the philosophy of "We'll score one more than the opposition" but i'm not sure that applied to trying to grind out a 1-0.

Pep Guardiola is not running this show, Pep Lijnders is.

Opposition teams have got around the table with the likes of tha PL and pigmol. Press City and rough them up, this is why 5 subs have been allowed and referees have been lenient on the redshirts kicking fook out of City. The PL has killed pure football in the pursuit of financial gain for the cartel clubs.
I believe City have decided, if you can't beat them, join them. Hence the introduction of the dipper coaches. It was pretty obvious in the last few games that dipper tactics have been introduced to our game.

Completely agree and sometimes the earth being flat works against us also.

We've seen the Catalan Keegan many times.

I enjoyed us out shithousing the biggest shithouses in the league.

If Pep is studying previous managers I can't wait for the Brian Horton tactics against Brentford.

We need him doing a Big Mal and parading in front of the Stretford End holding three fingers up.

Hasn't won a league title since 2015.

Until his first with Benfica, hasn't coached a UCL game since 2019/20.
He did not reinvent himself. Pep has reinvented himself previously but las 2 seasons he has been stuck in a rot.

We went to the Emirates in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 and ground out a 0-0 result both times. Both were under Mancini but one was a bus-parking operation, which led to Arsenal fans giving me loads of shit on the way out about that, which was fun.
Brilliant ! :)

I think reinvention requires personnel change as much as it does tactical change.

We've made a sweeping change to our playing staff in the last 9 months and so that isn't going to immediately provide results. Players will learn how to play within the team and develop.

I wouldn't say he's stuck in a rot yet, but rather we are in the middle of the next reinvention of the team. Last season had a massive injury crisis where we lost our best player, our main playmaker couldn't stay healthy and our defence couldn't string any type of consecutive playing time together.

I agree I see another reinvention focused more on counter attacking coming. I am happymformit as well as we play to Erl’s strengths. This ismErl’s team now it used to be Kev’s team.

We've played good counter attack football in the past with Sane and Sterling on the wing, and then gradually lost our pace over the next 5 years.

We can still be a possession heavy team but we have to be willing to utilise the pace we now have available on the counter as an extra wrinkle in the attack.

I think it's great that Pep has shown he can have the team play in a different style.

People have been moaning like fuck that Pep is inflexible and has no plan B. Now he shows he has a plan B, they moan about that. The guy can't win with some fans. Unfortunately, chaps, we can't play gung-ho football and win 5-4 every week. This is not Roy of the Rovers.

Don't think Pep is a good enough defensive coach to have us set up that way

Also thought his subs were really poor and he overcompensate which invited pressure, we had no outlet

I'm for it, just dont think Pep is the man for it
Perhaps Kolo is

Yes I think that was the 2017/18. We built up from the back with the centre halves splitting but still played quickly on the counter where as, last year, due to the lack of the legs in midfield and vulnerability of the defence we reverted to a very slow, structured build up.

Yesterdays performance won’t prove successful long term and although it proved a backs to the wall display I think that was less tactics more due to our inability to retain possession and build the play.

Exactly. You cant play quick football with a team of old legs.

And yesterday was a situational thing for me. I dont see us doing that much if at all from here. And yeah we're still losing the ball really often at the moment. Happened in the Utd game too.

There is a possibility of a front 3 formation when Marmoush and Cherki are fit if circumstances require that . So with the defensive masterclass (almost) of yesteryear yesterday we suddenly have lots of tactical options it seems which can only be good .

Great tactics from Pep but comparisons with the incomparable Mancini fall at the first hurdle …… no scarf
