Pep to leave at the end of the season

Forgive the ramblings of an over emotional 64 year old man, who should probably know better, but here goes.

Peps 10 years at the Club have pretty much been the soundtrack to my recent life. I met the current Mrs Dodge the Christmas before he joined. She was told early doors that the one thing that will never change will be me and City. 6 months later I dragged her up to the CFA to the Pep greeting and from that moment on she was hooked. Within a couple of years she had her seasoncard and we've travelled all over England and Europe ever since. Kharkiv twice, Belgrade, Madrid too many times, Leipzig, Dusseldwarf, Basel and many others. Along the way, met many a hardened Euro away Blue who have become the best of friends. At Porto, I met for the first time in 20-odd years my very best mate from my teenage/early 20's years. The guy who used to hitch-hike round the country with me, as City daft scallies, ducking and diving in the dark days. The guy who I'd have took a bullet for, who I fell out with over stupid argument. Pep, getting us to that CL Final, sorted out that friendship, which still flourishes to this day. I lost my old man to cancer the year before Pep came. After the Pep greet I took the new Mrs Dodge to Southern Cemetery to see him. She noticed that his grave was covered in white feathers, which we thought nothing of at the time. At Istanbul, at the final whistle, when we were all thinking of the people we'd lost who didn't get to see us make history, you can imagine our thoughts when Mrs Dodge noticed a white feather float down from the sky at the final whistle.

That's the point of my post really. The personal memories that that man has given us will live forever. It's not just a footballing legacy, it goes far beyond that. The man hasn't just changed Manchester City. He's changed people, families, friendships. Changed the worlds perception of Manchester. Changed everything for the better.

What an absolutely blinding legacy.

So again, 10 years on, I'll be dragging Mrs Dodge up on Monday to wish him a fond farewell, in the balmy Manchester sunshine (he's even changed the fucking weather), sink a few scoops with mates and raise a glass to Josep Guardiola Sala.

Salud Pep, nice one.
Beautiful post that sums up how I'm feeling as well. I can live with whatever happens from now on when it comes to the footballing side of things. We're little City - always have been and always will be. Pep let us experience what it's like to really be on the other side, among the absolute elites of the game, and now we'll go back to being on the outside of that, winning trophies but nowhere near as many or as often. But it's the 10 years he's been here for, and everything that's happened to me in those 10 years, that I'm struggling to let go of.

So from the greatest manager the worlds ever seen to someone whose proved fuck all in his managerial career, has no style we can expect and has won mickey mouse trophies. Can't wait to be mid table again. Maresca is not a good appointment, ill die on that hill.
What an enormous pair of labia.

Well done Pep , losing your mother too early , many challenges on and off the field and you came through with class , total respect and no one other than some with envy or jealousy in their mindset could say a bad word about you.

Good that you are still representing the club but I suspect the management bug will still burn and this won't be your last post.

Thanks for 10 years of enjoyment , fun , some hair raising times culminating in success we could have never imagined.

You will be a hard to follow.

Just got up after my nightshift to see the news and I'm gutted, brought a tear to my eyes that leaving video. My 12 year old will be devastated, he's only known pep as manager, he absolutely loves him. Thanks for everything pep, what a ride it's been

We were a bit of a joke of a club in my years growing up (I will be 50 later this year, for context).

Never won a thing (promotions aside) and only dreamt of getting to Wembley or playing in cup semi finals or finals.

This guy will go down as THE Greatest manager that has ever lived.

and he managed OUR club for 10 bloody years, winning EVERYTHING there is to win

Absolutely unbelievable.

Thank you for everything Pep Guardiola.

He is not even top 10. Carrick, Amorim, Ole, Moyes shit all over him.

Well that farewell has absolutely ruined me for the day. Its perfect. It encapsulates him, our club and our decade together perfectly.

Thank you Josep, from the bottom of my battered old blue heart. How lucky and priviliged were we to live through the most wonderful time of our lives as City fans, taking me and all of us through every emotion and seeing us win the lot with the most fabulous players, playing wonderful football. The stand and statue will forever mark his name and decade in history which is the least we can do.

I was actually starting to look forward to playing with a higher tempo next season - but it still hits hard now that it's confirmed.

Edit: feels like that's our USP gone?

Players move for money and always have, "I always wanted to play for Pep" just sounds better in the interview.

Never be another like him. He came in dragging hope through the door. First season left some doubters. From season 2 we experienced football and success we could only have dreamed about. His teams set records that will never be bettered. All the best to him wherever he finds his next challenge.

Never thought anything would match 93:20, but we’ve had the centurions season, four in a row and two trebles culminating in that unforgettable night in Istanbul, all thanks to Pep.
Two trophies in his final season seems underwhelming even though it’s a great achievement. That’s how much Pep has raised our expectations.
As someone once said - we’ve seen things they’ll never see, and if we don’t reach the same heights in the future we’ve always got the memories.

It goes without saying he will be remembered as a GIANT of City and his trophy haul is incredible.

His legacy on English football is incalculable. Every team from top of the grassroots bottom plays out from the back. Every player has to be good on the ball and possession is the key. The days of keepers and central defenders being cloggers has gone - some of the triangles we've played at the back have been outrageous. The vision he has is absolutely unparalleled and quite honestly, even if the next manager won't everything for 10 years, their legacy won't touch Peps.

Just think of how many players he made genuinely world class - John Stones, Edersin, Ruben Dias, Rodri, KdB, David Silva, Sane, Mahrez, Walker, Rodri etc and taking a defensive midfielder to the Ballon Dor was incredible.

If you'd told me 10 years ago the problems were Joe Harts feet, full backs not inverting and that strikers are optional and that midfielders can be better than strikers if have laughed at you. No one else came anywhere close to this - maybe Wenger was closest but still miles away.

His rivalry with Kloop produced the 2 best teams I've ever seen. Every era needs more than one great manager to compete with and Pep competed with a great and won - comfortably. That tells you a lot.

We won't see his like again. An absolute, utter genius.

Enjoy the break Pep you deserve it. And thank you.
