Pep to leave at the end of the season

In the event that Pep does leave this summer, I'm neither in favour nor against Maresca taking over. The best candidate would be Enrique, after him there are a group of managers we could look at, none of whom entirely convince, and all come with an element of risk. My preference would be Iraola, but if it’s Maresca let’s get behind him.

I disagree with the notion that he failed at Chelsea because, in his first season he got them back into the Champions League, won the Conference League, and won the Club World Cup. Despite what some people say about the CWC, everyone who played in it wanted to win it, and everyone who didn't play in it wanted to. So to win it was a great achievement. Unfortunately Chelsea’s board are an absolute basket case, he basically told them as such and paid the price with his job.

Think it Maresca then Kompany in 3 years

Maresca had been at city knows how it’s run knows the expectations of our club knows people in the club Khaldoon Soriano and so on
So if tomorrow Luis Enrique was available you would say no because he probably doesn’t know Khaldoon Soriano well?

And expectations ? Might as well hire me becuase I know at bit expectation is to win all trophies so what different Or additional expectation does one can have ?

Some strange reasoning is being to justify potential signing of Maresca .

And you think it was the he job of Maresca to report to Khaldoon or Soriano or txiki over Pep ?

Kompany would be the dream but the problem with him is whilst he’s at Bayern we can only judge him on what he does in the Champions League, as the Bundesliga has been set up so that it’s harder for Bayern not to win it.
Hopefully another Leverkusen under Alonso or Dortmund under Klopp crops up over the next 3 seasons that really pushes Bayern. If not then at least Kompany has some freedom to expand his tactics and try new ideas out a bit like Pep does with us each year.

The managerial market is absolutely on its arse and it has been for a good few years now. You saw Bayern appoint Kompany, Madrid running back to Mourinho, Liverpool appointing an unknown Slot, Carrick staying on at the rags. There simply aren’t that many proven, elite managers around now, so you’ll be taking somewhat of a risk whoever you appoint

The good thing about managers is you can get rid of them pretty easily if it does go to shit, unlike a failed transfer
There was one proven manager in Xavi Alonso available but probably he didn’t meet criteria of being assistant to Pep ? Which is the reason given now for his signature .
One season under Pep is all it takes I guess, Kolo Toure should hold on he can be next in line

Our leadership team know what they are doing.
What will be will be, and we have a league to win.

Kolo Toure can be the next in line? :-(

How does Maresca compare vs. Xabi Alonso? I remember reading Alonso was our pick as Pep's replacement last summer before Madrid got him.

I’d throw money at Enrique. The chance to succeed Pep and prove himself in England might appeal to him, regardless of how comfortable he is in Paris.

Unless he’s signed a new deal as rumoured, not seen it if he has.

I'm pretty amazed Liverpool haven't gone for him. Doesn't seem like Liverpool fans ever really warmed to Slot and he's had a pretty terrible season considering they were champions and they spent so much money in the summer. Would have been pretty much a universally popular move to sack Slot and appoint Alonso.

So for Liverpool and likely City to pass up on him there must be some doubts there. How he sets up his teams perhaps?

I do think if he's given time he'll do well at Chelsea.

That would depend first on how Maresca did, secondly on what Kompany wanted to do in 3 years. It's nothing like the Pelligrini / Pep situation the club are in a different place now.
It would first of all depend on Pep actually leaving, a year before his contract is up.

Is playing style more important than getting the better manager out there ? Alonso is probably the only available elite manager and has the charisma to go with.

Of course, I’m talking about the situation if Maresca ends up in charge at any point. The next manager whoever he is, whenever it is,won’t be appointed to keep the seat warm for somebody else.Whoever the next manager is they will be appointed because the club believe in them and will be hoping it’s another long term appointment.

Wouldn’t be putting Alonso in the elite group yet. In fact probably the only managers I’d call elite currently are Pep, Enrique, Ancelloti, maybe Flick, maybe one or two others can’t think of off the top of my head.
