Pep to leave at the end of the season

I find it baffling what Pep would do next. He has all he wants at City, he won't get that anywhere else... The right owners who listen and work around him tbh. The money. The best opponents to beat. The backs against wall, take on the world fight. The relationships he has built up. A red cartel loving media to beat. And the charges verdict in our favour.

Maybe he is tired though and just wants to put his feet up (which I can't see). But I do wonder what his plans would be post City. I can't see him going to America or the ME and playing in a weak league - That's too boring.

Really prefer someone with some CL experience of getting teams far. Maresca never managed in CL did he. This is not conference league where you play rapid Wien and djurgarden from Sweden in KO stages we must finish high up in league stage to avoid early exit again.

Chelsea were in the CL this season. Finished above us in the group but went out to PSG.

He has loads of outside interests. He’s taken a break before.

IMO, if Pep is absolutely set on leaving at the end of his current contract, and City really like Maresca, then we should break now, but if Pep is open-minded about his future, then we should stick with Pep. It is very confusing for fans to read, because the press statements are so strong, and we are not fully informed.

You would think that the media would run their stories by City before going in so hard with their claim that Pep is leaving but there does not seem to be that club-media relationship, possibly because Khaldoon runs City differently to other clubs i.e., he is a chairman with multiple roles, and it is genuinely difficult for journalists to understand City's position. In short, I think, like Tolmie, that the press story is Maresca sourced, and as such fallible.

For the same reasons he was saying he will definitely be here next season (which he didn't say last night), he doesn't want to face questions around him leaving. The "I'm staying" and the "I need to talk to the chairman" shuts those questions down.
Up until Saturday I thought he would be here next season. After the players FA Cup interviews, the comments by Pep, the reports in the press and the rumours about Maresca I couldn't be more certain that he won't be.
Clearly Pep and the club want to decide how and when that is officially communicated, which is there absolute right.

His contract runs out next summer, that’s why.

I suspect he's going to take a long break from football and spend time with his family. He's given us ten years and I for one will be eternally grateful. I doubt he needs any more money, there is more to life than football and being in a pressure cooker week in week out.

It might have been in Pep Confidential I read it or similar book but I remember reading he didn't necessarily see himself in football for his whole career and liked the idea of going into politics. He's clearly very into his politics as well as football. Could see him doing a stint at International level then possibly back to Barcelona getting into politics.

its cost him his marriage and the over all pressure of running a football club traveling answering stupid questions the media would never dare ask a red shirt unless given permission by people above. ssn revelling in point that this is first time in career hes gone two seasons without winning title tells you everything
 
Work colleague of mine is Italian he thinks the leaks have come from Italy. Apparently that Nico that said about Maresca contract is a kinda journalist that gets a story and runs with it and doesn’t care about consequences, Di Marzio the same.

The season's over, the big send off is in a few days, everyone needs to crack on.

It was kept quiet out of the public sphere for months and we were still crap in the league.

We have the makings of an excellent young squad but the central midfield has been sluggish and ineffective for big chunks of this season. There will be an overhaul so let's just let the new coach get on with it.

I love Pep and we'll never see anything like the past 10 years again, but if the plan was to go leave then he should go. Pep's fairytale ending is not more important than the long term planning and stability of the club.
