There's an allegation that Mendes has been leaking about City since January to then apply pressure to City. Mendes is regarded as a master strategist and the most powerful agent around. I note that Maresca only signed with Mendes in October 25, and since then the rumour mill went into overdrive.

This whole situation is not sitting right with me. I love Pep and he's actually looked rejuvenated recently and said how much he loves the players. Sure he went through a bad patch and this may have coincided with the pressure from Mendes since January.

Maybe I just don't like the idea of Mendes getting his way.

Mendes also is Hugo Viana’s agent and good friend , he’s also very close with Fabrizio Romano, Romano has been getting exclusives for a while now.

If Maresca becomes our manager , Mendes would have two concrete links to City. I don’t like that idea

Bizarre. On one hand you have journalists confirming his departure and the other hand, Pep himself not confirming it.

Just seems to me like Pep is undecided as of present, based on his words, despite what the journalists are saying.

Everything about it is weird.

We’re 3 days out from his last ever game if he’s going. No one knows definitively what’s going on.

But realistically no one would be telling the sponsors he’s leaving if it’s not confirmed. The club would have denied it properly if it wasn’t true. Every journalist on the planet backing up the story makes sense with what we know about them all waiting for 1 more source to confirm it, and then Holt getting that from Puma (?).

Maybe he just wants control of when/where it’s announced. Maybe the legal situation with Maresca/Chelsea complicates it.


Leaving at such short notice after limping out of a league title doesn’t feel right for the greatest manager in history at the club that has made up most of his career, but it is his right to choose how he goes.

I’ve gone from convinced he’s staying to desolation/grief to clutching desperately at straws.

If he goes this summer and we don't get a goodbye at the last game of the season it is what it is. He's earned the right to go when he wants and I think it's reassuring the club clearly have plans in place in case that happens.

At the end of the day I want Pep to be happy and at peace with himself and if that means going back to Spain and improving his family life then so be it - some things are bigger than football.

We've had (so far) an amazing 10 years with Pep where he's clearly fallen in love with every aspect of the club and in return everyone has fallen in love with him. Whenever he goes it will be a huge loss but we will still be one of the best clubs in the world and we as fans can look back at this time with nothing but joy as we've had the time of our lives.
