Pep Wants Nutrition Expert

That was quite sensible for bluemoon. :) I agree it's hard for us none athletes to grasp that they still need high energy food, sugar, carbs and fat... the body needs a lot of this stuff it's just getting the right amounts of them which is the tricky part I imagine.

Yea that and I think it's timing as much as anything mate. e.g. eating pizza directly after a game is obviously fine, whereas eating pizza directly before bed, isn't!

It obviously equates to energy expenditure/glycogen replenishment, however, pizza isnt fine,as a staple, because there are far better choices to be had, and, for best recovery, should be had.

This is a guessing game though as none of us know what the nutrition dept serve up 99% of the time and it certainly wont be a 'free for all' as one players requirements will be drastically different to anothers.

I think this article just makes for good headlines.

Never watched tunnel cam on the official website? They often showed the trolley going into the changing room, it had pizzas and chips/wedges on it every time.
Can not believe so many blues never saw that on tunnel cam, but when youre winning I guess it doesnt matter what you eat ;-) It was not food that did for us last year in the league and Madrid ( but why spoil a thread )

Yes but what some people dont understand is a nutritionist (under Mancini anyway) was overseeing this food and the players, based on saliva and blood samples, also had a shake provided directly after the game individual to there own specific requirements. Some people are acting as though we had a dominos pizza boy delivering at 4.45 to provide the recovery meal.

Incorrect.

The club is paying out all these these contracts and they don't have a nutritionist? Almost every American sports club has nutritional requirements their players must follow. They screen the refreshments in training camp. Hell even a lot of college teams do it as well. With the kind of schedules athletes play nowadays there is just no cutting corners.

There's no way on earth the club doesn't already employ the services of nutritionists and dieticians.

This has been covered several times.....of course they have a nutritional team,it's more a case of fine tuning......any percentage advantage, that can be gained, must be sought.

I guess I'm just surprised that so many world class players would engage in any junk food during the season. It's the offseason now so that's not really an issue. But having seen a lot of ESPN and HBO documentaries on athletes now..... athletes now treat their bodies like holy temples. They make up for it with groupies and extravagant living.

I think they always had a nutritionist but Pellers did fuck all to enforce it.

Moreover, not all nutritions are equal. 100 calories from candy isn't as good as 100 calories from whole wheat pasta, for example. 100g of sugars from ice cream isn't as good as 100g of sugar from fruits. For carbs especially there's a huge difference. Google about glycemic index in food. Some carbs gets released into our bloodstream and turned into glucose immediately after we eat it (like white rice), while some gets released intermittenly throughout the day (like brown rice). If we don't use/burn that glucose rightaway, it will be stored into fat. So getting your carbs from Pizza and whole wheat pasta is not equal even though the amount of calories consumed is the same.

Shouldn't need enforcing tbh, when you're on £100,000 a week+, or aiming to be, YOU should be the one wanting to be absolutely on point with your diet.

They have tailor-made recovery drinks when they come off, you can see the labelled up shakers, but outside of pre and post match, everything is in place for players to take responsibility already.

Exactly but Pep don't care either way me thinks so he's just going to enforce. This is part of the reason why Zlatan hates him so much. Everybody at Barca was like a schoolboy to him where they just nodded to everything Pep say. Zlatan wasn't having none of that. He also mentioned the only person that could stood up to Pep was Messi and that's it.
