Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Exactly.

You can see why the club identified Rice, Bellingham and Guimareas as options, but bizarrely failed to get any of them.
It's not that bizarre really.

Bellingham seemingly chose to go elsewhere, which is his right.

Rice and Guimareas were up for sale at prices the club were not willing to pay, which if the reported prices were correct, it's difficult to blame them.

Why alternatives were not identified and brought in however, is what is now costing us.

I disagree.

People are overreacting. Because we lost our first game. In what feels like 20 years in the league.

Nothing has changes.

We still have Haaland Foden Doku Savinho, Gvardiol and other young players. We still need to find repalcements for senior players going past their peak. But still better than most at their peak.

One year more or less changes absolutely nothing. Nobody is doing a wholesale overhaul, Pep or another, one two or no years. It will happen naturally one way or another.

The following need replacing / phasing out due to age and/or being injury prone

Kev
Gundog
Walker
Stones
Kovacic

Nunes needs flirting off due to being shite.

Rodders will take half a season to get back to his best once he returns.

That’s 6/7 players mate. That’s a pretty big job.

For me, he either stays and commits to overseeing the next 3 years whilst we sort the above or he finishes this summer and a new kid gets the reigns and budget.

They had an agreement with Paqueta prior to his problems.

City offered £100 million for Rice, whose preference was to stay in London.

Newcastle refused to sell Guimares, who the signed a new contract and is club captain.

Bellingham sold his soul to FC Franco.

Who else would've suited City aside from keeping Lavia.

Hindsight is perfect in a mirror !!

I find it bizarre to say you want Rice and Guimareas but refuse to go anywhere near the asking price.

Given the money available to the club, in fact, I find it downright absurd.

Very harsh on Nunes, currently our best player and showing plenty of improvement in an under performing side.

He's not shit.

Walker, Stones and to a certain extent Kev have been kept a season too long. All class players but on downhill slope now.

Seeing similar with Robertson at the dippers.
Exactly 100%

A once top full back who is now a liability.

Great clubs stay great clubs by ruthlessness, let players go as soon as there is a sign of decline and drop off in performance.

The dippers of the 80s were masters of it, so was Fergusson, this next summer we have to be utterly ruthless and not be so weak in the market.

If the likes of Musialla and Wirtz are the players we want, get them, even if we have to pay over the odds.

But you could go through those 5 and say:

KDB - has hardly featured since 22/23 and has already been replaced by Foden (current form notwithstanding)

Gundo - well past his best but we didn't have him last year and won the league.

Walker - Rico is 19 and already better. He's already been replaced.

Stones and Kova - can be great squad players for the next few years.

I honestly think if we add a top class CM in Janaury we'll be laughing. After that it's a case of identifying the next generation and phasing out the likes of KDB, Bernardo and Stones who'll mostly be rotation options from next year.

He is far from shit but him becoming our best player in recent weeks maybe shows how standards and quality have dropped.
