Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Love Pep for what he has done for our club! I’d love him to renew his contract but for me it has to be for a minimum of 3 years so he can rebuild, one year is no good to the current regime or any potential transfers in. 3 year or goodbye with a stand named in his honour
Yep,we can’t do the big rebuild we need when being in limbo every season.

I imagine causing unrest in the fanbase isn’t something they’d want. I’m sure they’d want everyone pulling together, no?
I doubt any club would publicly announce important plans to their fan base just to appease them - as we’re probably the best run club in the world, I think we prefer to make announcements when they are cut & dried

I know you're currently trying to post as the greatest living blue - but how has the situation not changed?
Eh?

The rolling contract? He has always operated in that way.

I don’t see him not signing yet nor the speculation that comes from that is anything to do with the current situation.

I am merely observing the problems and not allowing a few defeats to disguise from the fact that we as fans have had an amazing few years. Forever grateful.

It’s easy to get emotional and attack the players coach and board. They will assess the situation and find a way forward. The whole pep not good enough, needs to sign, will he won’t he has got nothing to do with what’s going on.

It’s shit and crap to watch. Get a team out on the pitch after the break and let’s go from there. It won’t stay this bad.

Thanks for the civil response - I'd take a differing view regarding viewing it as always being a "rolling" contract - that could be said of every contract. The situation is that his is run down and no decision (apart perhaps known by a select few) is apparent, which contributes to uncertainty and most concerns like to portray stability and certainty.
Not the sole reason for the current malaise - seems to be a bit of a perfect storm and alignment of issues - enough for a thesis - but Pep's situation is a factor imo.

Don't think it takes three years to rebuild this side. Two tops.

Pep built his own team from the ground up in about six months in his first season, it just took a full season with it on the pitch for it to fully bear fruit. From February 1st, 2017 onwards (six months after Pep's game) we lost two league games in an entire calendar year and eventually won the league with 100 points. And that was starting from Pellegrini's last season of 4th place, 66 points, and our most fragile squad post-ADUG takeover.

By the time Pellegrini left City his strongest line-up was:

Hart
Sagna, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy
Fernandinho, Fernando
Navas, De Bruyne, D. Silva
Aguero

The team Pep won (most of the) 18 games on the trot with was:

Ederson
Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph
De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D. Silva
Sterling, Aguero, Sane

In the space of 15 months Pep only changed five players to the starting XI but it was all he needed to shift the mentality and success of the entire club. Despite what people say about the players Pellegrini left for Pep (on paper), the situation was bloody dire and we all remember what that 15/16 season was like. What Pep's currently got to work with is far, far superior to the team he was given when Pellegrini finally let go in the summer of 2016.

There's no reason why, on the opening day of next season, our starting line-up can't be roughly similar but vastly improved in terms of productivity and efficiency. Fuck, even with the current crop of players available, if we get any of the key names back that we're missing then the situation immediately improves. Rebuilds aren't about changing all eleven players in your strongest team and it won't take Pep three years to do it.

Ederson
[solid new RB], Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol
Rodri
[creative new AM], Foden
Savinho, Haaland, [exciting new LW]

Two years would be more than enough for Pep to completely change the future of this club for after he's gone, but even renewing for only one year would definitely allow him ample opportunity to set this team up so that his successor can keep the good years coming. We'll definitely drop a level when Pep goes but there's no reason why he can't put us in a position to replicate what we managed between 2011 and 2014 - and he'll only need an extra year to do it imo.

If Pep doesn't sign a new contract, I think the club should come out and say it when they know.

It's better having a farewell tour, than attempting to keep it in house, having the fans wondering, and the shit stirrers in the media asking questions weekly about the situation.

I think all that can distract from the actual football.

Agreed.

For 45 minutes today, with a patched up defence, we were far the better team, the "not scoring" forward players were once again the real issue, those that can't see this are blind to it In the last 2 games we should have been 2,3,4 or 5 up at half time, it's not good enough (from the players).
