Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Good post, when the players start to question his tactics Pep will
consider his future at City. Pep needs to stop overthinking things and play our best team and not drift to this over cautious approach as per last night.
Yep, he’s been consistent in saying when he can’t “convince” the players any more, he will leave. We’ll have to see how he analyses his performance and the dynamic in the dressing room. It’s not out of the question he’ll say he won’t be extending. Then if he’s not extending he should be paid off now and leave.

And you know this because of what please tell.
He has appointed his friend , his mentor , he may be a great coach ( no idea myself) but he has failed as a manager at every club. Watching the training sessions he contributes as little as Kiddo.
You need a strong character next to Pep, someone sometimes to say NO, he, Pep likes to complicate things far too much, and that problem seems to be escalating with his every year in management.

As things stand he definitely shouldn’t be given a new contract.
He should have til Christmas to show that he can improve us by getting the right players in to give us the strength we need, by stopping us making the same excuses and by giving young players more game time and an incentive to stay.
Then, after Christmas, he needs to get good, strong performances from us in the UCL.

Anything else and we shake hands and wave goodbye. (I just don’t know who we can replace him with)

I think that point "convince the players" is very close if indeed has already passed.

I am not so sure that it's a case of one blip and we pick up where we left off in 2018/19.

I would love that to be the case but I feel Pep is changing for the worse and developing issues and complexes. I can't work it out as a distance supporter but some of the decisions are absurd and will undermine him in the future.

I'd be looking to sit down with him and discuss what his thinking was and what his thoughts were for the future. His future at City should very definitely be under review.

They are his decisions to make. He is the manager. I'm happy to disagree with them and critcise from my sofa, but don't get that he should explain himself or state how he intends to improve himself, who to, who is mire qualifed to oversee that judgement? this isn't a call centre or managenent company.

He made decisions like that all his time here. They have resulted in wins, they have resulted in losses, one more than the other, and brought trophies.

In that case we should part now. You can't go into a coaches final season and not know whether he should take us forward. We have to sit down with him and have a conversation about the season, and the key moments.

I think he's probably suffering from mental exhaustion.

I tell you what, Harry Redknapp wouldn’t have picked Gundogan and left David Silva, Bernado Silva and Phil Foden on the bench. Absolutely no chance.

Guardiola has decided he’s going to play Gundogan in every minute of every single Champions League game. Fuck what’s best for City. He’s going to do what’s best for his ego. Prove himself right.

4 times on the spin he’s been directly, completely and entirely responsible for us going out of the Champions League.

Instead of playing the way we’ve been super-successful, he’s decided when it comes to the Champions League he needs to make it about him. He wants the attention. Fuck what’s best for City, he’s going to do what’s best for his ego.

And he has the fucking cheek, time after time to lay the blame at the club. “This club will one day break the cycle of never being successful in the Champions League”.

But it’s not the club’s fault. The club have given him everything he could possibly need to be successful in the Champions League. But he’s decided to make it all about him so people can laud him for his genius.

Four times is just too many. He’s not going to learn, he’s not going to change. We’ve missed a golden opportunity. For the previous two seasons we were the best team in Europe. We should have won it. We might never get that chance again because we’re in serious regression while Bayern and Liverpool have comprehensively overtaken us.

Time for new ideas and less ego.
100% agree

Only seen a few quotes from his post match conference saying the team needs to go again next season and regroup. Not seen any comments about his team selection. Quite evident the squad needs an overhaul in a number of areas with some players coming to the end of their City career. As you say if there are any doubts about his future we need to know asap so plans can be made.

To be a leader you have to take people with you. They need yo have faith in you, sometimes blind faith when they don't understand the whys but do it anyway on trust. He'll lose that.

There needs to be a post-season discussion before players and coaches go their separate ways. IMO he's done. He fell apart at Barcelona and needed some time out. I think the moment may have come again.

I've never really seen what Gundogan brings to the table unless we are thrashing a team and he can sit deep and play his controlling easy passes and look very accomplished. When are are chasing a game he just brings nothing to the table for me. In situations like last night It baffles me what Pep sees in him. If he was a great defensive midfielder why do we need Rhodri alongside him, another limited player going forward alongside Ferna. It was obvious from 10mins in that last night's midfield was offering little. But Peps stubbornness to change it when we have four far better attacking players in Foden, Mahrez and the two Silvas cost us massively. Losing I can take, losing without playing our best team and going out with a whimper is a difficult ask. I think if Mancini or Pellers were in charge last night we would have gone through, it's that simple.
