Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

as much as id love pep to stay , i also dont want to end up in a gpc situation where they can never get out from under him.

The only thing id say is would the NYCFC appeal to his competitive nature, they have tried this time and time again with getting big names in to try and get football to take hold in the usa and it just doesnt work, messi is selling tickets but its kind of a freakshow situation rather than football taking any kind of hold, the plain and simple fact is in the us football will always be a poor relation to nfl and nba and even to mlb and whatever they do will not change that.
We won't have that problem as Pep won't be sat in the stand every match.

I'm not as confident at this point. The executives at NYCFC are pretty bullish about their chances of taking him there.

And I think Txiki just wants to retire back to Barcelona when his mate leaves.

Thing is, Pep calls the shots and City bend accordingly. He might consider he doesn't want to make a rod for his own back after reaching the top of the mountain.

I also think it is dangerous for any Club to be wedded to one person. The assumption is City will drop off after Pep, but I'm not so sure?

Real Madrid continue to win, regardless of who manages the team. Our structure is incredible.
My thoughts exactly. Pep is a God but he admits he’s not infallible & we‘re not the only successful team in Europe. Any ambitious manager would love to manage at our club

Exactly how i read it. This whole club is built from top to bottom. There may be short transitiionary phases or managers who fail but it will be sorted accodingly. We will not do a Man United. A fish rots from the head down.

You know what, mate?

We will never see this period of domination again in England, certainly not in my lifetime.

Khaldoon and people, plan for the next 30 years, not the next five.

I'm quite comfortable if it's one Prem title every three or four years or so.

As Pep says, it's never about the winning, it's always about being there, competing at the business end.

A lot of people forget that is what truly makes you great.

Yes. To stay at Leverkusen.

My feeling is he's eyeing up the Real Madrid Job, if not City. Ancelotti's contract is up in two years, Pep in one.

If he has another good couple of years at Leverkusen he will walk straight into the Real Madrid job. Maybe even in a year if Ancelotti goes a year early. Then there's also the possibility of City in a year if Pep doesn't renew.

He knows it would be stupid to jump the gun and take the dippers job when there might be two way better offers in the next year or two.

I'm sure he does want to see what he can do at Leverkusen next season, but I'm not so sure he would stay there if the Real Madrid or City job was available this summer.

Who replaces txiki?
That's going to be another issue that we have to deal with.
Well according to folk on here - he couldn’t sign a good player if he tried!!!
On a serious note - he will be a loss but there are many others who would love to replace him. We are MANCHESTER CITY not PEP CITY (but they will be both be hugely missed & NEVER forgotten)

Yeh hopefully I'm completely wrong and it isn't, just going off what a few people have mentioned to me previously. There were rumours he was moving anyway into a new development on John Dalton St so could just be that
In any case - Pep isn’t leaving this season. He’s already confirmed he will see out his contract

Yes. To stay at Leverkusen.

Yep, only this. He turned City and Pep down previously to replace Arteta and stay at Sociedad.

Clearly a man with principles and loyalty.

For me, Alonso would be the wrong choice. He would be linked with Real every summer he was in England.

He has Madrid written all over him after Ancelotti.

I'd like Ancelotti next summer, personally. A class act.

Watching Nasal lose at the French Open should remind everyone that legends lose their juice at some point.

Pep just needs to lie in the shade for at least a year after his time is done with City.

I'm fried after these nine years, so goodness knows how Pep must feel being in charge of it all!!

I actually think the time is nearing where the fanbase needs a reset? I've smelt it even from myself.

Left right on the whistle at Wembley, didn't go to the parade...

I appreciate Pep and the team so much, but I'm starting to crave chicken rather than guaranteed steak every night :(

I want to keep winning everything but maybe in a different way and style, have more risk to our play?

I came away from Wembley and three hours later I was home and over it.

Losing to United in a Cup Final and over it? That's not me, it should never be me.
Top Post.
All things have a life cycle and this one does feel like it's coming to an end.
All things must change, and it's time now to go again in a different way,
with different people. We will never win as many trophies again, in the
same period, that is for sure and Pep is a true and genuine legend on every
single level. But I and I'm sure others, feel very similar to you.

Seriously, I wonder if we have a Txiki successor primed within the CFG already. We obviously have a huge shared scouting department. Could we have been upskilling his replacement from within?

Losing to United doesn’t have the same feeling as it once did. Not to say the rivalry has diminished but mainly because we have dominated so much and destroyed their own legacy all the while they have been a laughing stock. If they ever get it together again and we remain the team to beat then those feelings will return but now? Nah I don’t count them as a rival anymore in truth. It’s a lovely feeling tbh. Won’t last but for now that’s where I am at.

Winning lethargy has most definitely crept in and I am in no way entitled. All I would say is when Pep leaves, it won’t take long until we miss the slow laboured style of play -:)

I hope he continues for a few more years. I ain’t ready for the changes just yet.

I can really see the appeal of Ancelotti. Mega-experienced, winner and a real steady pair of hands to ease us out gently out of the Guardiola period. Not some young novice.

Ancelotti is nearing retirement so maybe he could steady the ship for a couple seasons whilst the club decide what direction we want to go in with a longer term solution.

We’ll have to decide whether the want to retain the Guardiola footballing DNA that permeates throughout the club. Ancelotti’s style is different but I think his managerial experience could really be an asset if Pep does decide to leave in 2025.

I'm a huge Pep fan. I got into watching Spanish football the season before Pep took charge at Barca, who I had a soft spot for due to Cryuff, and watched Pep's team almost as much as City. So no one was more delighted when we were first linked with him and then signed him. However, I do think change can be a good thing so we are getting close to a the point for Pep to exit.

I want a variation on a theme football wise from the next manager but not a carbon copy. We have an identity as a club now and that must be maintained but something a bit different would be good.

A bit more risk and flamboyance in our play might be fun, or it could be bloody stressful. Thing is, we almost certainly can't better so we may as well have a bit of variety. That said, Pep has evolved during his time here and adpated to changes in the squad.

And, to be very clear, I do not find City boring...

I would love Ancelotti to come in after Pep. It could be similar to Pellegrini, not a long-term appointment, but would still be ambitious and when he's ready to leave one of the current crop of young, ambitious managers should be ready to take up the reigns... Vincent Kompany, maybe?

Who replaces txiki?
That's going to be another issue that we have to deal with.
Txiki's main job was to get and keep Pep... which he has done so hats off to him

Once Pep has gone, there's no reason to think there's not lots of other potential candidates out there who can do the job just as successfully as he would do in the post Pep era

It's defnitely the consistency under Pep that equals greatness.

I have to be honest though, I hate losing any game. I recover quickly but that in part is age / experience.

These days, I don't like it when City are not top of the league but we can't and won't keep winning it every year. I'd like us to keep the in-a-row thing going for as long as possible because once it stops, the chance to better it will never come along again.

I am not convinced Pep will leave. I am happy to defer thinking about replacements till Christmas by when it should become clearer.

I do think people are too quick to read into Alonso staying, Xavi leaving, De Zerbi floating etc. Don't think anyone is 'lined up' as of yet, till Pep's intentions are clear.

Completely - I think Real Madrid and City are at an interesting crossroads. RM really want a sustained period of domination in La Liga, comparable to ours in the Prem. I think 4 in a row (well for me anyway) has made us hungrier for more success in the UCL. I wanted the Prem more last season but I think I want to see more to success in the Champions League now.

Don carlo could deliver that
