Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

If it wasn’t for covid pep would be gone. He stayed as there is no real opportunities for him & he won’t leave us with the current situation.
No real opportunities for him? The candidate favourite to win Barca elections literally wanted pep.

However I must say didn't expect pep to extend because he was hesitant and he never stayed this long at any club. But I am happy he is with us. Every manager goes through a rough phase. He will get it right.

I’d take Wolves manager now in a heartbeat..
Love his attitude they play good football and his teams have a great team spirit and keep going to the end
Accordingly to this website, the City manager isn't good enough anymore, the team isn't good enough anymore, and the players aren't good enough anymore.

And you want us to sign the manager that had his team lose at home to this set of jokers?

I hoped him extending would give the players and the whole team a big visible push.

Nothing like that happened, if anything we are getting more frustrated, no joy in our play, slow display etc.

The mood of the players probably as down as our current form. The way last season ended with us nearly 20 points behind Liverpool and that Lyon loss we should be hungry for success so much but I cannot see that.

not with displays like vs Leicester loss, WHU draw, United draw, WBA draw.

Anybody half decent or good we draw or lose against so far. Except Arsenal but they are not much decent are they this season?

Problem is Soton is deffo half decent/good category same as Everton. We play both away to them within 2 weeks.

Pep and Lillo needs to come up with a plan to beat them but so hard to imagine beating at least one of them. And these are clubs we should be 15-30 points above end of season.

We have quite a few issues at the moment.

Great players have moved on or retired and the people we were hoping to step up aren't delivering. Bernardo hasn't kicked on like we thought he would. Is Pep not getting the best out of him or has he burned himself out?

Mahrez feels like a luxury. Looks great when the whole team is performing but he will never be talismanic for us.

I like Jesus but he isn't a like for like successor for Aguero.

Rodri isn't as good as Gundogan at dictating play/retaining possession but nor does he have the dynamism of peak Fernandinho. So what is he is he really bringing to the table?

We bought a LB who, perhaps after a terrible run of injuries, looks like he will never be reliable for us. And he isn't bringing much going forward to compensate. We keep shoehorning other players in his position. Some of whom cost tens of millions of pounds and arents even LBs.

We finally seem to have some solid options at CB at the moment but all in all, this group of players will never reach the heights of the back to back title winning side. And to be honest, how can you really expect a team to maintain that level beyond a couple of seasons. We were unbelievable.

We have a rebuilding job in front of us now and I don't really see how keeping Pep for one more year after this fits in with that. Next year is year zero for me. The start of a rebuild which might take 2-3 years. Things look stale to me, but if the club and Pep think he can build another great side then they should commit to that. He needs to be talking as though he's here for another three or so years to build another great team and the club will need to invest.

If he's just sticking around another year though then maybe we should just part ways at the end of this year and let a successor get on with having a bash at building the next great side. Have a horrible feeling we might end up stalling and delaying the rebuild by focusing on the sideshow of bringing Messi in next season to work with Pep. That really won't address any of the issues we currently have.
I have to agree with this sentiment, we haven't bought in the next crop of players who will dominate the league again.

The current crop in the main are pretty average some at the end of their tether and others just not up to the necessary level to kill games off quickly.

We have dropped points in 7 games already and that is mid table level which is where this squad is at combined with Pep underperforming now for some time and I don't know whether he has the mettle for the next rebuild and rebuild we have to as this squad cannot take us forward so yes it might be I believe a season or two outside Europe to go again refresh and get back to playing quick tempo attacking football.

All sides have to go through a transition of sorts our turn has well and truly arrived.

We have made a number of mistakes in the transfer market which is now well and truly coming home to roost and we can't afford to make too many more so our recruitment policy needs an overhaul whether it be who we have and how we go about it but we need to get a lot better at it that is for sure than we have been in the past three seasons or thereabouts.

Look we have four games in the next couple of weeks and 12 points would change the mood completely. Personally I think we will be lucky to hit this target. All the evidence and signs point towards a team in decline and this is not since the June restart but goes back to early doors start of last season. If it turns out better great if it turns out to be a transition that is ok too. But I am starting to sense the end of an era and the coming weeks will tell a story.

But next 4 PL games are:
Soton away
Newcastle home
Everton away
Chelsea away

12 points from this run? It wont be more than 5 or 6 imo we could g without a win in the away games for a start based on our lethargic form.

Too true but it might be a last chance to get back on level terms. Struggling at home to West Brom would not inspire even the most optimistic of Blues. But you move on one game at a time and any old sort of a win on Saturday will be a starting point.

Amen ;-)

We have to admit the players are not good enough to implement the coach's plan.

Once Messi arrives we will see a clear difference and coach's plan will be validated.

How? What does messi do? He walks around the pitch for 90 minutes and with our slow play by the time we get the ball to him he is surrounded by 4 defenders. Sure there would be some moments where he dribbles past 5 defenders and score but we don’t need messi to beat west brom at home. Why didn’t we attack with intensity from the first minute.

We have to make the most out of what we have now. We drew to West brom at home, we have dropped points in 7 games out of 12 this season, that is not good enough.
