Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I think this too. He’s good mates with pep. I’m sure pep will have told him how well he’s looked after here. And be telling alonso there’s only one place to go when he leaves Germany

Had crossed my mind. Only Real Madrid stand in our way. Only Real Madrid.

I think he’ll do another two year deal at the end of this one.

Started the 16/17 season. Ends his time here at the end of the 26/27 season.

Oh what he can deliver us if he does that.

I hope Pep will sign another extension because i agree with other posters in that he has it so good with us and with all the off field shite he's had to deal with, we have become his club.

The other interesting thing is that he has left his mark on the whole footballing side of the club. Every team plays the same style of football, Pep's style!

So when Pep inevitably leaves, the club will need to appoint someone who has the same philosophy, because i doubt we'll be tearing up the blueprint of how we play. So when the sad day comes, i hope Pep will be involved in who his successor will be.

:-(

“Last year, after Istanbul, I said ‘it’s over, there’s nothing left’,” he said.

“But I have a contract and I start to think ‘no-one has done four in a row, why don't we try?’. And now I feel it’s done, so what next?

“Now I don't know what exactly the motivation is because it's difficult to find it when everything is done.”

Asked on Sky Sports about his future, Guardiola said: “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club - my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years - we will see.”

The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying."

Could be taken in many ways.

I certainty did not take it as I am off soon, I said earlier, this team could get even stronger in the coming seasons, I thought we often looked off the pace this year, incredible thing to say but for me a fact.

Several top players off it, a yew of the oldies looking leggy.

A strong summer in the transfer market and I think Pep will come out all guns blazing and I am certain he would want another Champions League trophy in that new museum.

I think there's very few of us on here that expected him to stay as long as he has (8 completed seasons). Eventually, he's going to leave. He's brought us to heights that even the happiest clapper wouldn't have dared to envisage. 6 PL titles, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, a CL trophy, European Super Cup, Club World Cup. Enjoy him while he's here.

Think he'll do another 2 years to go 10, based on nothing at all. Truth is I'm relaxed now,he goes when he goes.We go back to normality and probably normal success,or a new normal amount of success. We most likely won't repeat what the last 8 years have brought but that's okay I've seen it and have those memories.

His words yesterday have been taken out of context, unsurprisingly. He said after 8 years, he is closer to leaving than the beginning, in other words he could stay a few more years, but certainly not another 8.
Obviously the media have read that as he is closer to leaving next summer than signing a new contract.
At this point for everyone it’s guesswork but his good mate Lu Martin has been saying for 12 months now that 2025 would be his last season, including once again this morning in the times.

It's a combination of Pep not quite articulating what he means and the press looking for a story.

For me, he was saying that now is the time to celebrate and not look ahead. He's not going to do another 6 or 7 seasons, so he's closer to leaving in that context. And in terms of motivation, when he had won the treble he didn't have any, but found a reason to keep going. He'll find another reason, whether that be 5 in a row, completing a decade, coaching new players or finding a new system. It's a long season, he'll go play golf and then see how he feels.

I personally think next season will be his last. He might stay to do ten years, but if someone is available that both he and the club feel is worth bringing in for our continues success (and I'm certain Pep will be a big part of that) then he might call it a day after next season.

I could see him leaving if it was to enable Alonso to come in. He's the only candidate at the moment that I would be "happy" with - in the context of being absolutely fucking devastated Pep was leaving.

The thing is that at the end of next season, there's the Club World Cup which will run for a month starting mid June 2025. I'm sure he would luv to win that.

Because of that, i think he'll extend until at least 2026.

This is my take,Alonso is a class act along with the guy from Girona.

City will want someone who can stay long enough to create their own legacy, and whom young players will recognise, identity with and respect as a winner.

If City rate him they won’t want to miss out, they’ve probably already spoken to his advisers.

All depends on how we start next season imo. Not really in terms of results, more in terms of how the players respond to winning four titles in a row. If he can sense they're committed he'll probably do 10 years and call it in 2026. If he senses the atmosphere and hunger has dropped he'll probably call time on it all next spring.

At which point we'll know how Xabi Alonso copes as a Champions League manager - if Leverkusen are on for another Bundesliga title and in the last 16 of the Champions League we'll probably take a punt on him. If not we might be looking at Gasperini or Enrique or Simone Inzaghi. Just for 2-3 years. Then we'll plan again.

I agree, he'll read the players and if they give him everything he'll be tempted to stay. He loves these players and wont want to leave them.

There are two versions of that. To the Bbc, he said 'I am closer to leaving than stauong another 7 years'. To sky he said just the above.

But both times he said right now I want to stay next year and then we will see, talk with the club and see how the players are.

And we know how that has gone so far.
