Looking at some of yesterday's match again. The build up play was really positive, but obviously we would have liked to see more chances.

Their midfield really didn't know how to respond, but for my money we didn't pull their defenders out of position quite enough (to be fair, Sterling did out wide, but not inside). Pep will obviously be making tweaks, but I think our creative midfielders - KDB and Silva - will need to play just a few yards further forward to be able to pull their defenders around and create space. For the same reason, I can imagine Pep asking Aguero to fall a couple of yards deeper in the build-up play, just to see whether that pulls the defenders out a bit...

Can't wait to see more!
 
It may be too early to get too focused on Saturdays tactics as Pep may surprise us with something completely different next week. But if we persist with the tactics from Saturday then in my humble opinion, and Pep obviously knows far more, I think we need to make some fundamental changes. Our number one problem is our number 1. Everyone can see that and I'm sure we will have a solution in place shortly. Kolarov is also not the answer at centre-half, but again we all know that.

My other big question marks revolve around our full backs/midfielders and the Silva/KDB partnership. Pep wants full backs who can be midfielders and I think that was part of our downfall on Saturday, Both full backs hesitancy and inability to quickly select the optimal pass was the reason for our slow and predictable build up play. I think we have already seen that the role these two players have in the team are key and I think it may be easier to get midfielders who can play full back rather than full backs who can play midfield. Fernandhino and Delph I think are better suited to this role than Clichy and Sagna.

My other concern is the Silva/KDB partnership, which for some reason that I can't explain, just doesn't seem to work. My solution, and I think this solution only works because Pep's packing the midfield, is Yaya instead of either David or KDB. Yaya's legs may have gone as far as the hard yards are concerned but he is still the best passer of a football in our squad and has a real eye for a goal. I also think his height and physical presence may be key when the going gets tough. If Yaya's head is in the right place I still think he has a huge role to play in this team.

We won, where's the downfall?

Yaya - if he were up to the task - would be far better suited to the role Fernandinho played yesterday than in De Bruyne or Silva's positions. He's at his best when he's bringing the ball forward from deep whether finding the right teammate or running at the opposition. Whereas Silva's movement further up creates space and De Bruyne's ability in the final third is by far his strong point. Any added physical threat isn't much of an advantage when we're clearly intent on avoiding hoofing the ball forward.

It will take time for the team to properly click and there were definitely worrying moments yesterday but it was a fantastic performance from a second choice keeper, a young lad who has had his confidence destroyed, two debutants and three players in new positions who were all trying to gel in a system where they are entirely dependant on each other. Some appeared fitter than ever and they all played with a real sense of purpose.

It's really no wonder the England team has underperformed for so long - English coaches really are gash.

Surely you can't include Sir Glen, the revolutionary thinker ?

The man who can list his achievements as guiding Swindon to a playoff final & taking both Spurs & Chelsea to lose cup finals ?

The man who, when linked with a return to Southampton, lost out to Paul Sturrock, due to protests from supporters ?

When he talks, Pep Guardiola had better listen.

According to people who have played for him, he is apparently a superb coach tactics wise. The guy just doesnt know how to manage people.
