Peps Targets

I'd like to see a more streamlined squad next year and going forward. Have a core of say 16/17 top quality players with the rest of the squad made up from the academy and any other youngsters we bring in.

Out: Sagna, Mangala, Demichelis Clichy, Kolarov, Yaya, Fernando, Nasri, Bony.

In: Gaya, Piccini, Stones, Pogba, Weigl, Sane, Dybala.

Promote: Maffeo, Angelino and Denayer
I know we've been linked at some point with all these guys, but some of them just don't seem realistic.

For example, the idea of getting 2 of Juve's top 3 players doen't strike me as realistic.

The idea of bringing in 7 or more also sounds unrealistic. Historically, we've gone with 4 or 5. My guess is it would stay around that.

And if we go with the Guardiola few superstars, what can we expect?

Do you think others think that of you or that they think you think he will be gone and not just that (like them) you think others think he will gone without you actually really thinking it?
I have just seen more more 'i dont know why people think Nasri will be gone' comments than I've actually seen Nasri on out lists.

I can see a slow transition, you cant just rip the heart out of a team and start again and expect it to work. It willbe a slow change, not the wholesale CM98 changes people are recommending here.

Yaya will be first casualty though. And then maybe Pep will bring in a 2nd in commend like Pellers did with Demichelis

I think pep will go for new stars upcoming players like sane , Laporte, weigl, and one superstar hopefully pogba. He can raise players to another level so iheanacho sterling and Kdb we have the core already here. Gonna be great to see how we develop I can't wait for next season but at the same time we have to keep focus on this. Players are on trial and need to prove they are worthy of a place next season so this could help us elevate our performance levels as already witnessed in the last few weeks.

It's nigh on impossible to say, I would have thought. Even in the case of those about whom so many are certain, I'd suggest it's much less clear cut, not least as it depends on numerous factors.
To take just the example of Yaya: of course he might very well move on. But that will, I'm sure, be contingent upon us being able to identify and get somebody who is better than he as a deep-lying playmaker in the centre of midfield. Or perhaps Guardiola will look at it and think that, actually, in a team that will be far, far more compact than we are at the moment, Yaya is still capable of playing that role at the highest level, without having the problem of a huge 20 yard gap behind him?
Personally, I don't think that there will be as big a turnover of players as some are suggesting (or hoping!). I reckon Guardiola will be happy, by and large, to work with what he's got, with one or two key additions. I don't really hold to the view that we have six or seven who are not 'Guardiola players', not least because of the sheer variety in the way that he sets his teams up. At the weekend, for instance, he played what would probably be written down as a 3-2-4-1 formation, with Kimmich, Badstuber and Alaba at the back, Lahm and Alonso in midfield, then a four of Coman, Costa, Müller and Robben in behind Lewandowski. He just seems to see the game differently to pretty much everyone on the planet, so it's difficult to second guess who he will/won't want.

Can Pep use the current squad in different way than Pellegrini ?

We already spent fortune, so lets make him get the best out of our +300 Million Pound squad.

Pep will no doubt have a shopping of his own. The problem he will face is moving players on. City pay their players very well, (allegedly), and some might just decide a pay cut is not for them and do a Nigel Clough. This would limit the squad additions.
For the pundits who are saying Pep will find the prem difficult, sour grapes are clouding their judgement, there will be very little he does not know already.
Who he brings in will have "football intelligence", adaptability, and be absolutely comfortable on the ball. We have only a few at the mo, so maybe we will have to be patient for a season, not something us fans are good at.....per adua ad astra and stuff.

One thing is for sure: we are going to spend big! Very big! And so we should do. Go for CL glory from first season.

Laporte or Stones
Weigl
Pogba or Gundogan
Sane
LB + RB

those changes I expect in the summer, new versatile striker could be possibility to replace Bony.

I also think he will use some of the current squad in a different way. Oto I can see being moved into midfield I am sure whatever he does it will be interesting.

I think Fernandinho could convert to CB.

Zabba, Dinho, Otamendi and a new LB.

And could Javi Martinez be our Busquets?

A midfield three of Martinez, Silva and KdB doesn't look that dissimilar to Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta.

Up front

Raheem, Kun and Nacho.

So a new LB and Martinez, a bit of reshuffling and we already look more like a Guardiola team without spending the earth.

I also think Pep can get some change out of Navas.

Any reasoning behind Fernandinho being played at CB? I know Mascherano did for Barca but can't see it being tried in this league and why him? I would have thought he would be one of the midfielders who will actually stay in the side.

Silva and in particular DB work nowhere near as hard as Iniesta and Xavi. They won't be in a midfield three. No chance.

My guess:

-----------------Hart----------------
Zab-----Komp------Stones-----Gaya
--------------Gundogan-----------
---------Pogba----------Silva-------
De Bruyne-----Kun--------Sterling

With a young rb and backup striker also on their way, sane an option too.
Swap gundogan for weigl maybe, otherwise thats perfection.

Well he is very mobile so if we play a high line he can get back quickly. He is a better passer of a football than Kompany. Don't see him as a Pep midfielder. Doesn't have the skill set required. But I want him in the team! The other two don't work as hard you are right, but they have the ball retention skills and passing range to be midfielders. We'll see. Don't see Silva in a front three unless Pep plays him in the withdrawn central role which Spain have tried quite successfully.

Jason Denayer (return):
-RB and CB
Looks to be good on the ball, quick and strong. I could see him playing RB more often than CB at the start but would obviously act as cover/competition at CB too.

John Stones (40-50m)
-CB and DM
Lots of criticism recently but has the skillset to be a top defender for years to come. Can bring the ball out of defence into midfield, which is important, and, imo, could quite easily add cover in DM.

Julian Weigl (20-25m)
-DM and CM
A young Busquets type player, a type we have needed for a long time.

Marco Verratti (no idea 50m?)
-CM and DM
The best CM in the world, imo. Very Xavi-like but more tenacious. Would be very difficult to get but I'd rather get him than Pogba

Isco (25-30m)
-CM and AM
With the arrivals of KDB and Sterling we need another attacking player who is good in possession, like Silva. Seems to be somewhat available. Would improve us now and also be ready made to replace Silva in x number of years.

I think the above would suit Pep. The most interesting thing for me about Pep is what he does with the existing players rather than who he brings in.

Do any of you financial gurus have any idea how much Guardiola will have net spend this summer, taking into account the extra revenue from the new deal.

thats the team i would pick, can see our youth players coming in swell. We will probably have more of an english core of players
