Peps Targets

I think there are more folks who believe 'others think Nasri will be gone' than there are actual folks who think he will be gone :)
Do you think others think that of you or that they think you think he will be gone and not just that (like them) you think others think he will gone without you actually really thinking it?

Out: Sagna, Mangala, Demichelis Clichy, Kolarov, Yaya, Fernando, Nasri, Bony.

In: Gaya, Piccini, Stones, Pogba, Weigl, Sane, Dybala.

Promote: Maffeo, Angelino and Denayer
Why spend 50 on stones to sit him? That's my main arguement against stones. I really enjoy watching nico plus I'm not not ready to give up on manga. Plus denayer....

Don't know why everybody is saying nasri will go he's peps ideal player!
No he isn't. Nasri is a good dribbler but is too slow on the ball, takes too many touches. Pep likes players that are quick decision makers and can hustle to win the ball back Nasri doesn't have any of that.

I don't think we'll see a huge number of changes. But we will see big name signings.

Pep likes footballers who are comfortable in possession and I think he'll assess our academy very closely to see who he might want to promote. The likes of Denayer could very much feature in his plans. His biggest challenge will be that extra cup competition we have. Klopp has already suggested his style of play makes the extra competition a game too many. Pep's possession based football will at least help ease fatigue as you do less work when you keep the ball. But I'm not sure how good we'll be at it to start with!

I imagine we'll see some major signings in the midfield area and potentially at full back. With him in charge and the financial backing there's no one we can't now sign.

Will be really interesting to see his approach as there is a big rebuilding job needed here

At Barca he had the core of the best Spanish team ever already in place ,along with the greatest player of all time

At Bayern he had a treble winning machine who had preeminence in their own league

We have arguably the best squad in the league but one where a few of its biggest stars have question marks

Toure , too old and his legs have gone
Kompany , can't stay fit
Aguero , absolutely class but fragile
Silva , again world class but the wrong side of thirty

Can Pep get more out of our current squad ? Will we need wholesale changes, will he use the academy?

On paper we need

2 new fullbacks, could he use Angelino / mafeo here ? Zaba and Clichy as first choice ?
1 world class centre half , stones has potential but isn't world class
1 world class centre mid / defensive mid , pogba would be my choice here , could get him now?
1 world class forward who can play wide or through the middle , Neymar would be my choice but very hard to get
I don't think there will be question marks against Silva or Aguero and my guess is Kompany will be given every chance to get fit.
Wrong side of thirty? He's literally just turned thirty.

It'll be interesting to see who comes and goes, whether youth players are promoted, but I can see a massive overhaul.

Goalkeepers

  • Joe Hart
  • Angus Gunn or Ian Lawlor [promoted from EDS]
  • New keeper.
Defenders
  • Nicolas Otamendi
  • Jason Denayer [promoted from EDS]
  • Vincent Kompany
  • Eliaquim Mangala
  • Pablo Zabaleta
  • New leftback.
  • New rightback.
  • New centreback.
  • Shay Facey [promoted from EDS]
Midfielders
  • Fabian Delph
  • Fernandinho Luiz Roza
  • David Silva
  • Kevin De Bruyne
  • Raheem Sterling
  • Patrick Roberts (out on loan)
  • Manuel Garcia [promoted from EDS]
    • New defensive centre mifielder.
    • New left sided wide midfielder.
Strikers
  • Sergio Aguero
  • Kelechi Iheanacho
    • New centre forward
    • Thierry Ambrose [promoted from EDS]

I can see half the squad being sold, released or loaned out for future release. Bony, Nasri, Wright, Sagna, Toure and Navas might be surprise players to stay.

Goalkeepers
  • Willy Caballero
  • Richard Wright
Defenders
  • Gael Clichy
  • Martin Demichelis
  • Aleksandar Kolarov
  • Bacary Sagna
Midfielders
  • Fernando Francisco Reges
  • Samir Nasri
  • Jesus Navas
  • Yaya Toure
  • Bruno Zuculini
Strikers
  • Wilfried Bony
  • Edin Dzeko
  • Stevan Jovetic

Pogba £60 million. Toure: Out

Stones £40 million. Demichelis: Out

Wiegl £25 million. Fernando: Out

Carvajal £25 million. Sagna: Out

Amavi £10 million. Kolarov: Out

Sane £40 million. Nasri: Out

Average age in: 21.33 Average age out: 30.83

Could throw Navas, Bony and Mangala into the mix as well, I can see Denayer thriving under Pep.

Out: Sagna, Demi, Mangala, Yaya, Navas, Bony

My guess:

-----------------Hart----------------
Zab-----Komp------Stones-----Gaya
--------------Gundogan-----------
---------Pogba----------Silva-------
De Bruyne-----Kun--------Sterling

With a young rb and backup striker also on their way, sane an option too.

Sorry but I think Nasri will be the 2nd to go after Yaya. Sagna will go he can't pass the ball.
Don't think we need this complete overhaul like everyone is thinking... If we truly believe vinny can stay healthy I think we have the cbs we need (Denayer in for MDM if we think it's the right time)... As far as fullbacks go how can you not like Sagan and zaba so I'd say a new lb if there is someone we truly think could be the next big fullback. Say what you want about bony but he does score and this is still early in his city career relative to playing time and kelechi has looked very promising so I think strikers are set. AMs are great and I even think Nasri could stay and do a job for us since he looked pretty good before the injury. I'd say navas and yaya need to be replaced, so around 2-3 solid pieces I think would do it.

Tbh I can't see an upheaval to the extent some of you lot are suggesting. I think Nasri will probably stay and try and fight for his place. Yaya, Demi, Bony, Fernando are more than likely to go, with one of Kolorov or Clichy with them. Personally i'd keep Clichy as he's homegrown but Kolorov is the better player going forward so who knows.

Bellerin and Stones seem very unlikely signings due to the crazy sums Arsenal and Everton would want. I also think they're both scarily overrated and we have better or nearly as good in the youth system and on loan. Denayer > Stones any day for me. I think Weigl and Sane are good shouts as they're players that would suit peps game and are players he's praised in the past. I think Pogba may be unlikely but not impossible, I doubt he'll want to stay in Serie A too much longer so its a toss up for him between playing for Barcelona or playing for Pep. I have an inkling that Barcelona may trump us on that one though. Also is there really any room in a pep system for a player like Pogba? He needs to be the main man to thrive and I don't think we'd be able to offer him that.

I think we could also see players changing position, like Fernandinho and Fernando in defence or Zabba in midfield.

Can't see Mangala staying. Not technically good enough on the ball.

I can see 6/7 going and 4/5 coming with with a couple of promotions of young players. The signings will be big though.

Caballero -> HG Goalie
Demichelis -> Denayer
Sagna -> Fabinho
Kolarov -> Ricardo Rodriguez
Fernando -> Weigl
Yaya -> Pogba/Gundogan/Parejo, prioritized in that order.
Nasri -> Sané
Bony -> Dunno, just not Icardi please.

I doubt we'll see all of them replaced in the first window, but at most one or two of them will survive the summer. Demi, Kolarov, Fernando, Yaya and Bony are absolutely certain to go imo.

I think Fernandinho could convert to CB.

Zabba, Dinho, Otamendi and a new LB.

And could Javi Martinez be our Busquets?

A midfield three of Martinez, Silva and KdB doesn't look that dissimilar to Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta.

Up front

Raheem, Kun and Nacho.

So a new LB and Martinez, a bit of reshuffling and we already look more like a Guardiola team without spending the earth.

I also think Pep can get some change out of Navas.
