Peps Targets

I think it would depend on what sort of formation we were playing, and how much he was being actually asked to defend, what i mean is if we were playing 3 central defenders (out of our current squad say - Sagna (right hand side) Kompany (central) Mangala (left hand side) then it would mean the 2 wing backs would be given licence to get forward without having to be relied on to do too much defending as they will always be covered by the centre back from their side. If a move were to break down then there should be enough defenders to cover until the wing back could get back into position and help out. Essentially not too dissimilar to the job Alaba has done for Bayern on there left hand side on occasion. good on the ball, very athletic and fit enough to get up and down the pitch at a good speed.

the reason i think he would be good as more of a right midfielder / right wing back is because i think he could be very good at getting forward to support attacks from there, not necessarily the defensive side of things.

(I'm not comparing Alaba and Fernandinho by the way, only the role i think he could play)

Coughs *fernandinho on the right* coughs

I still think we get:

Pogba
Busquets
Alaba
Xhaka
New young RB

Not expecting more than 4-5 new players. Though it's certainly possible. I also expect us to continue to add to our Academy with premier young talent.

I expect Yaya, Navas, Bony, Mangala, MDM, Kola, Clighy and Sagna/Zab all to be gone. Possibly Nasri (he has the skills to shine with Pep) and Fernando as well. I think Denayer, M. Garcia, and Celina will play a larger role under Pep.

Fernando is nowhere near a Pep player, Navas has the work rate and the energy to play as a sub or a wingback. Especially with Gundogan Pogba/Xhaka coming in and they will replace Yaya and Fernando. I also think Mangala will get a shot under Pep

I agree Fernando doesn't have the passing skills to succeed under Pep.

i have read somewhere that Pep only have 18 senior player in his team (starting 11, and 7 substitutes). unlike Pellegrini, which the squad consist of 22 senior players. i wonder who will be off then.

If we are looking at a 25 man roster:

We could do something like:

1416240_Champions_League_Team.jpg

With:

GK- Zieler
GK- Gunn
LB- Robertson (Hull City)
RB- Maffeo
CB- Otamendi
CB- Denayer
CDM- Weigl (Dortmund)
CM- Delph
CM- Fernandinho
CM- Nasri
CM- Celina
CM- M. Garcia
ST- Correa (Atletico)
ST- Iheanacho

Looking at that, we might have a bit too much youth and inexperience on the bench so obviously there needs to be some tweaks made. Decent squad overall.

I'm nervous you'd put John stones ahead of Mangala or otamendi in your starting 11....
Thought I put Otamendi in there as starter. Oops. I'd put him before Mangala though. Mangala has the physical tools but it seems like he's overthinking out there and the game is moving too fast for him.

Apart from 09/10, where he had a nightmare, he's been a solid operator in the transfer market.. Hopefully he gets it right with us too.
This is how I think he's done in the transfer market in his career so far..

Barcelona

Good
Alves, Pique, Busquets, Keita, Villa, Mascherano, Sanchez, Adriano, Thiago

OK
Fabregas, Maxwell, Pinto

Poor
Hleb, Caceres, Henrique, Ibrahimovic, Chygrynskiy, Kerrison, Affelay

Bayern Munich
Good
Lewandowski, Alonso, Vidal, Douglas Costa, Bernat, Kimmich

Ok
Gotze, Benatia, Reina, Rode, Coman(loan), Thiago, Ulreich

Poor
Kirchkoff, Kurt

Pretty clear he makes good signings, as some of those at Barca wasnt his choice.
